Is this the beginning of the end?? Heres some food for thought:

God created the earth in six days and then rested on the seventh, now applying those numbers to the longevity of the earth it is noted that the time gap between Adam and Eve to Abraham was 2000 years, from Abraham to the Christ was 2000 years and from Christ to the present, 2005 years. Therefore, I think we are living in a sliver of time before the second coming and the subsequent millennial reign of Jesus which will complete the seven thousand years.

To see pockets of anarchy (New Orleans) in a supposedly developed and civilised country gives the impression that end times predicted in the bible are in motion.

Thats my THEORY...(emphasise on theory)

You're not the only one thinking that. The question is WHAT could it be a trigger for?

Recession?
Depression?
Reconstruction-led economic boom?
War?
Peak oil (since we are so close anyway and production has just dropped due to the damage in the US)?
Stocks / bonds / property boom or crash?
Major move in interest rates?
Major currency move?
Serious financial crisis? Derivatives meltdown?
Terrorist attacks now that the US vulnerability to domestic disasters is so clearly visible to the world?
Radical shift in US foreign policy? Iraq pull out?
International action on climate change (actually doing something, not simply "Kyoto")? Public attitude shifts in favour of nuclear, hydro, other renewable energy?

Any others?
 
gee the doomsdayers are out today, have you ever heard of media coverage....this sort of stuff happens around the world every day, as soon as it happens in USA and gets broadcast on CNN, the world must be over right??

it's certainly bad karma for USA, i feel sorry for those people left destitute whilst their government fights wars in foreign countries to gorge on itself. oil at $100bbl??? only then will the USA learn that it needs to change its consumption habits, they need oil high so it hits their hip pockets and makes them change their habits, like in the 70's and 80's when they started to use gas more frequently. last time it was war/politics that made oil expenisve this time its China, SUV's, shortage in refininery capcity and nature.

End of the world, I doubt it - End of the world as we know it, in my opinion yes.

As much as I would like to think Australia would not act in the same manner as those in new orleans I regretably doubt it.

Every great civalization has had its fall throughout history and I see Ameriaca's just around the corner. Every article I pick up is about america and it's problems. WAR TERROR FLOODING DEBT Etc Etc.

One way or another tommorow will still arive and life will continue.

And if tommorow doesn't come so long as your are prepared so what?

I was thinking more along the lines of recession, perhaps some sort of socio/political change in the US.

Smurf, I think you left something out. That is "A shifting of power".
Once upon a time, a very bold and successful broker told me to keep an eye on Wallstreet, if I wanted to get rich. (Look at the west)...a very wise advice. Take a look at who is trading and you will find fewer americans and more asians. I don`t want to say that we should start watching to see what Shanghai has to say. No, I mean who HAS the most papers??? If I was Bush or Greespan, and I knew that alotta chinese were buying-out the stochmarket, then before I decide to make a major decision that would influence the world economy, I would first call my chinese neighbours...Wouldn`t want to speculate upon the consequences.

Talking about power, Ramjet mentioned the large news-coverage of CNN about New Orleans.
We all know how powerful "The Media" is. CNN has not been showing everybody what they should really be seeing, it would cause a civil war in the US or at least the downfall of George.
There hasn`t been any live direct news-coverage at the scenes in the city of New Orleans...only at a certain distance to avoid seeing the real misery of the population. Such coverage is only to be seen from international media ( which is always being kept mal-informed) like france and germany.
The US is at the brink of a recession. I think it will be the chinese that will pull-out, one day, the americans out of the big mess...but at a certain price... :goodnight
 

I am a non-practicing Catholic, as far as I am aware that Jesus Christ will not return till all religions become one. Hmmm, I cannot see that happenin' anytime soon.

Also note that the calendar used is not represenative of all Religions. This is not the calendar year 2005 in some beliefs.

By the way there is question to the date in which Jesus Christ was born, I was under the belief that it was not Christmas Day at all.

Anyway not getting into a religious debate as it is all confusing... I attended a Catholic College and in science class was taught how the world started with a big bang, then went into religious education class and was taught the 7 day theory...beats me. Same college, same eduaction you would think it would match up.

There has been some argument as to whether the fact that a lot of the New Orleans people are poor and black, has had anything to do with the speed of the response. Condeleeza Rice even came out and said she doudted race had anything to do with it. However, this says it all:

I am curious to know how many people in New Orleans were on "Welfare", and much money the country is saving...now that they`re dead!
 
Welfare in the USA is different to Aust.

Its very difficult to get---very stringent.

There is a maximum period 13-26 weeks dependant on State.
Maximum un insured--as some employers contribute to un employment benifit insurance is around $200/week.

Some county's have work for the dole and some a combination.
 
Until now, Mad Max was just a novel as is Neville Shute's On The Beach but the difference in the authors' approach to doomsday could not be more marked. I would like to think we would act more like Shute's characters than the denizens of New Orleans. Of course those in America's mid-west would have reacted very differently too.

I suspect that calls to impeach Bush can't be long in coming. No third world country could have been less prepared and more incompetant than the US in this case.
 
According to US climate authorities, the hurricane threat to a battered New Orleans and surrounding states may not yet be over .... I wonder at the wisdom of US Army engineers now proposing to breach some levees to allow the trapped water to recede back into the lake. If another Cat4 or worse hits closeby in the next few weeks/months, the inflow could be far worse than what occured this time round. Here is the thought-provoking hurricane season link..

Funny to blame anybody, as for about 5 days everybody was asked to leave, democratic right allowed them to stay, and the same democratic right gives them right to complain that help is not coming fast enough, common.

Food for thought:

The americans believe that democarcy was "invented" in America. You`re either a winner or a loser. Las Vegas is the most important City in the US.
 
Winner - looser, doesn’t matter you have democratic right to complain and democratic right to elect, luckily Bush junior doesn’t care.
 
I am quite disgusted at some of the racist posts in this thread.

I have spent some time in New Orleans (and I bet some of these posters have not) and can tell you they are the friendliest, most generous and cheery people you will ever find. U.S Dept of Statistics shows they are the most generous by a large degree (donations - tax return).

After facing the typical American white northern attitude for a few months it was a pleasure to have some of that 'southern hospitality'. Surely karma does not exist. Maybe it does, after all, they voted for Bush not once but twice!

If god exists I hope he levels the northern states and rescues the southern ones.
 
Shameful.

All you need to know about the US can be summarised in two sentences.

Govenrment of the rich.
For the rich.

I have lived there and never want to go back.
I sincerely hope this disaster causes them to rethink their priorities but I very much doubt it. Gated communities are going to more popular than ever.

We are so lucky to live in Australia.
