if i gauge the feeling correctly, notwithstanding a few rednecks on this site, we as a nation may come of age on wednesday.
it takes a fair amount of moral courage to apologise for big mistakes, and moreso when that apology is on behalf of someone else.
many aussies simply arent aware of the truth behind all this and may think, 'why should i say sorry', and may feel nonplussed, detached, hostile, or oblivious to it all. in time, perhaps with an adjustment in the teaching of oz history, we will look back on 13 feb as a momentous day.
if we all embrace the sentiment behind the apology i for one will have a higher opinion of the strangers i pass every day, and have fair dinkum national pride.
for this i say 'thanks'.
So you Aussies are to make an opology to your aboriganies next week, well I hope you have plenty of spare money, it cost us in NZ heaps and is still going on infact it will never stop. Is this what your tax suplasses are for or the "future" fund, your gonna need it. I bet there queing to make claims and the lawyers they'll have a field day too, goodluck
as for national pride, i am noticing a resurgence in white australian national pride. southern cross tattoos, car stickers, flags etc. it's good to see.
https://www.aussiestockforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=189964&highlight=pointers#post189964Interesting that the southern cross was giant stingray, and the pointers were two sharks. Question. Does that make em "white pointers"?
Interesting too that the milky way becomes a "river passing through a celestial plain". (the ‘Wodliparri’ is a watercourse curving through ‘Womma’). So it turns out over the years we've been sending rockets from Woomera to Womma.
Quote:
"Woomera was named thus after the Aboriginal spear thrower of the same name, in recognition of the place being a launch site in much the same way the woomera launches the spear".

The night sky of Aboriginal Australia is filled with information, wonder and edification and this curiosity plus drive to connect with the cosmos still makes many of us ponder when we view the night sky
there's that "religion" sneaking in again - drive to connect with the cosmos ......
Here we have the Aboriginal Flag and very striking it is too. Would look good in the corner to replace the Union Jack and what would it look like in the opposite corner with the Union Jack in the other?: http://www.ausflag.com.au/flags/ab.html[/SIZE]
I wish it showed the stars of the present flag also, that would be a flag we could all be part of regardless of race...
The Reconciliation Flag looks good enough: http://www.ausflag.com.au/new/recon.html
