I'm sick to death of hearing about this crap

No glory in the saga of the Wren family feud

http://www.theage.com.au/national/no-glory-in-the-saga-of-the-wren-family-feud-20100216-o917.html

ONE of the most enduring tales about Raheen, the Kew mansion currently owned by the wealthy Pratt family, is that the infamous tote tycoon John Wren bought it - or provided the Catholic Church with the cash for it - in 1918 as a home for Melbourne archbishop Daniel Mannix, who lived there for the next 45 years.

Whatever the truth, the Raheen story provides a stark contrast to the recollections of 74-year-old Jenny Kurg, one of Wren's granddaughters.

She says that after the suicide in 1945 of her father Anthony, John Wren's son, her mother Nora was left homeless and took her children to Tasmania to live with her parents. After two years, Ms Kurg says, she wrote to Wren, pleading with him to buy a house for them.

John Wren in 1939.

''It was an impossible situation,'' she says. ''My mother had to sleep in a double bed with my five-year-old sister, and my brother Anthony and I were sleeping in the sunroom.''

It is the first time Jenny Kurg has spoken about the way John Wren ostracised his daughter-in-law after his son's death.

She says she has been spurred to do so by erroneous claims about her mother in the most recent book about the Wrens. She says her father killed himself after a confrontation with John Wren led to him being disinherited in 1945.

All I can say is, no **** you self-indulgent scumbag. PLENTY OF PEOPLE NOT INVOLVED WITH YOUR KIND HAD IT WORSE!!

Anyway back to Brumby. Tell Top Cop Overland to not blame the overseas students for dressing respectfully you moron!

Power Without Glory is it?

Great book, have read it twice but still can't remember the title (probably because the book takes so to read as its very thick).

Appalling behaviour by rich people is hardly new. And that house seems to have a history. First the Wren's and now owned by Pratt family that got much of its wealth from an illegal cartel.
