Mundine yet to declare political intentions
Friday August 11, 11:12 AM

Boxer Anthony Mundine is yet to declare whether he will run for the Sydney seat of Marrickville in next year's state election.

Mundine last night attended a protest rally in Redfern where it was expected he would announce his intentions.

Hundreds of people marched to the Block last night to protest against the New South Wales Government's plans to redevelop Redfern.

The Minister for Redfern-Waterloo, Frank Sartor, wants to reduce the number of houses built there, leaving more room for businesses.

Mundine said Aboriginal people will not be moved from their homes.
"How would they like it if me and a few boys from the block went 'round to their place?" he said.

He called Mr Sartor a racist.

"If the block don't stand, then Sartor, he don't stand," he said.
The Bishop of Gippsland and a former Anglican Minister in Redfern, John McIntyre, agreed with Mundine.

"He is saying that by definition, if you get a group of Aboriginal people living together in a community, by definition they must be poor, they must be disadvantaged and they must be dysfunctional. Now that is a racist comment," he said.

Mundine said nothing of his political plans, telling the ABC he is still thinking about the decision.

Just what we DON'T need. Another politician selected because of their name rather than ability. :(

Especially a fruitcake like Mundine. Bad enough Peter Garrett, now there's talk of ex Brisbane Lions player Jason Acca.....whatever his name is, but Mundine would be the last straw. Imagine that loud mouthed brain dead idiot mouthing off even more than usual as a politician!

apparently it is confirmed,i like the way he plays the racism card. is this what they mean by "gutter politics"? "How would they like it if me and a few boys from the block went 'round to their place?" sounds more like a threat to me.

Agree completely. His remarks following September 11 were those of a complete idiot. Even if he privately thought so, to say on television that in effect the Americans "had it coming" he should have had the sense to keep it to himself.

What on earth is wrong with our political parties that they are prepared to accept wannabes like Mundine and Akermanis just because they have the capacity to mouth off, regardless of the content of said mouthing?

Peter Garret, though entirely ineffectual, at least has some measure of intelligence.

Seems to me it's mainly the ALP that's attracted to these idiots, and vice versa.
Cheryl Kernot was another example of the ALP's poor judgement of character. They enticed her into their fold because they thought she'd be an asset to their party, but she quickly turned into a liability. Not only was she a flop as an ALP politician, but the silly twit created a scandal when, as a married woman, she jumped into bed with fellow ALP politician Gareth Evans!

The conservative side of politics is also getting in on the act of inviting high profile sports stars to join their ranks. Rugby League star Shane Webke is considering an offer of a political career with the Queensland Libs. But unlike Akermanis and Mundine, Webke appears to have his head screwed on...at least he doesn't go around mouthing off and making a fool of himself like the other two.
Let's hope the Libs prove to be better judges of character than the ALP.

Hmmm....Mundine needs all the help he can get .Punch drunk ,or whatever ,he is going to be scandalous to whatever party he joins.I just cannot see him holding much credence when the public will turn against him, its a different art ,to the political 'Don King' arena.Surely he is badly advised.

Perhaps the show might be called Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid

(Julia its not a case he was a complete idiot -he just happened to say the right thing accidentally.... Re: his comments about 9/11 ,I must admit he was spot on .America suddenly realised ,the dirty art of terrorism, has no boundaries, accept this time it was held on the Eastern seaboard.)

Anthony "Trojan Horse" Mundine.

Is there not a Mundine who is currently President of The Australian Labor Party?

ALP president Warren Mundine is either a cousin or uncle to Anthony Mundine (can't remember which).
