How do I set up asx data (EOD) in metastock?

Have a disk with 14yrs data.
Manual says to use downloader.
But how do I set-up the initial directory?

HELP!

:)

Hi coyotte,

If you use Windows Explorer, to check what is
actually on the disk and determine what format
the data is in ... that would be a good, first move.

If it is already in Metastock format, then there's
no need to use the Downloader, instead simply
copy all the data from the disk to any convenient
folder .....

In that case, usually the data on the disk, will already
be sorted into 26 folders, in alphabetical order.

So, if that's the case just copy it directly across and
Metastock should be able to read it, immediately.

Sometimes, if the data has been loaded, via an older
version of Metastock, it will be necessary to run it
through the Downloader program as well, converting
from Metastock-to-Metastock.

-----

If the data is in ASCII.txt, .csv or some other format,
then you will need to convert it into Metastock format,
via the Downloader program .....

..... if the data is not in A-Z folders already, then you
can set your folders up, any-which-way-you-choose ...
some people prefer to do it by sector or top 100 for
example, but it does creat a little more work, when
downloading.

..... if you need any further help with that process,
just shout ..... only too glad to be of assistance ... :)

have a great weekend

Hi Yogi

Any simple way to setup the sectors etc in the one data base?

I have read about making .sym files but that just creates another data base that you have to update from what I understand

I run Amibroker as well so I could do this plus I lost my favourites more times than i care to remember……

Hi Ifocus,

Yes ..... if you set up each individual sector in a separate
folder, but under the SAME directory as you A-Z folders,
then you will only need to do ONE download, as it will
traverse all folders in that directory, as it processes the
daily data.

..... there's not a lot of Aussie stocks in many sectors,
so once it is set up, then the extra time in the daily
download, is minimal.

happy days
