I am a big fan of the ole Maggie. having read her two books about her life.

She took England out of the moribund socialism following the war and recharged the economy. She wasn't perfect but did way more good than bad.

Has anyone seen the movie? If it one of those ones bagging her then I cannot be bothered seeing it.

I have not seen the movie, but I doubt if it caters to those who admired and respected Thatcher as I did. Here's David and Margaret's view;

Apparently Streep's acting is it's redeeming feature, and lifts it above average.

Here's what the Guardian review said;

Does it mention her part in creating soft ice cream? She was part of the team that got air into icecream.

Yes, as Bob Ellis remarked it would be like making a movie of Gough Whitlam in his dotage. Not a pretty sight.

Look, I saw the movie last Friday night.

It is about an old woman suffering from dementia, eight years after the death of her husband Dennis, and she needs to rid herself of the grief, the dementia. The flashbacks and current scenes ran into each other too quickly - and the presence of the dead husband all the way through the movie was a pain in the ass.

I would say the film was predominantly about MT suffering from dementia - flashbacking to some significant events in her career and PM'ship - fight to become the first female head of the Conservative Party as a grocers daughter, breaking the coal unions, the Falklands War, the introduction of a Poll Tax.

Look, I revile the old biddy - however, one thing I admire about her is a line she kept saying, ' You have to DO something' ... so many, every?, politicians today of whatever shade are driven only by polls rather than principle.

Oh, Meryl Streep deserves the Oscar - but the film certainly does not. If you know what I mean.

Cheers
Brad

The oldies went to see this last night. They said that Meryl was outstanding.
