Hi, I am looking for a broker that allows me to trade FPO stocks on the ASX on behalf of my wife legally. No options, no reports, just a basic Australian CHESS sponsored broker. Anyone but NOT COMMSEC.

Only going to do 4 trades a year maybe so don't need anyone fancy.

Who do you use that has reasonable fees?

G'day Bill,
I use Selfwealth.
An ASX listed, CHESS sponsored broker and fits the bill of your description.
All trades are $9.50 of any value, no other fees to my knowledge.
All online, setup is an easy process.

Only negatives is there's no phone support and portfolio values are on the ASX 20 minute delay (individual stocks are live data).
Email or instant online chat available for support.
I haven't had the need or situation where I wanted to call though.
Cheers.

Selfwealth outsources their support to some mob that doesn't really give a toss, the simplest things seem impossible to do.

Try bell direct, very happy with them, good website: one login manages 3 accounts, support reactive whenever i needed them :10$ a trade up to 10k

Why not commsec?

Because some ar$ehole tried to get into my wife's existing account there. I got an email saying 3 attempts to enter your phone number has been incorrect, if you did not do this please contact us. As an Authorised user I rang them for my wife, explained everything. Because she was out at the time and could not talk to her they blocked her account in full because I shouldn't have been making enquiries on her behalf. I said to the guy, so you are telling me I can't do anything for my wife's account but in my own login I can buy and sell as much as I like on her behalf and access her bank account too, he said yes.

After waiting for her to get home we called again. Took ages but we did the password reset ok and the account was back online. A week later on a Friday arvo, same thing again, 3 attempts by an unknown person trying to get into her account. There is no holdings in there at present but sometimes there is. The safest thing for us to do is just close the whole account, get a new broker and new HIN number. If an authorised representative like me can't look after my wife's account then what's the point having a authorised representative in the first place? They don't seem to understand that some people are not wired to do financial stuff, that's why I do it for her.

So darn risky these days, people doing online fraud trying to crack your account.

I would do same close account, what could also happen is someone trying to log to a legit own account but messing up his account number.i sometime type it wrong and so probably raise a scare in some unwilling account holder.
In any case, i am with you better safe than sorry and 2x3 tries is getting suspicious
