PS If you're travelling single, and aren't worried about roughing it, you can get a greyhound pass, and travel bludy miles in a fortnight.
I went right around the States in about 2 weeks as I recall. (flew across the midwest on one leg) . Including Washington DC. Did some crazy things like rent a car in Salt Lake City, and in 24 hours did a round trip of Yellowstone, - not recommended lol (not much sleep that day).
Trouble with losing $14.40 per hour in Vegas, you can be sure that $4.40 of it is going to the mafia. Whereas bushwalking in Yosemite,
a) you will spend less, and b) you can be sure that it's all going to a great cause, a long-term healthy pact with Mother Nature
Anyway mate - let us know what you did when you get back
PS On another trip there (business) I flew over the Rockies heading for LA (I think), and it was one of the hairiest flights I've ever had, they had to pick a break in the clouds, and then dive bombed through it ( for some unknown reason) , lightning the works . Still, as the little girl said staring out the window at the thunderstorm (to her sister hiding under the bed ) ... " I think God is trying to photograph me!!" . As someone said, the altitude you achieve during your earthly experience is mainly based in your attitude
