Relax! Not spam.
I want a laptop and am thinking EOFY is a reasonably good time to buy at a good price.
Is it?
What I'm after is probably (I'm flexible):
Not Apple (not that there's anything wrong with that, just not what I want)
Not a tablet (got one, but will be in mkt for new one soon too)
15 inch screen or more
Intel i7, but an i5 will probably do
Weight is not an issue (the laptop's weight, not mine)
At least 3 usb ports (preferably one usb 3 port too)
All the standard inclusions (Wifi, etc - seems obvious but better say it)
Any thoughts?
Any bargains you are seeing?
Anything else I'm not considering and should be?
Not great for movies and games as the video adapter is weak.
Tks Can - yep, movies and games not a priority for me either. Sounds like a contender.
Hi Timmy,
As someone who provisions and works on millions of dollars worth of IT kit every day (including tenders from large vendors like HP/Dell/IBM), take my word for it along with CanOz, IBM ThinkPad is the only "PC" laptop brand you should pay for.
Personally the only reason I'd wait for a 'new' chip of any kind is to get the now slightly older model for much cheaper. CPU and RAM capacity overtook my needs back in 2002. Who cares if it's a quad core 3.8GHz versus quad core 3.6GHz? That 200MHz difference used to be your whole CPU!
Why is that exactly Sinner? Did IBM just get it exactly right before they sold the brand to Lenovo, and then Lenovo just didn't change it or improved it? They're so light, but yet so tough.
CanOz
haha i was just going to suggest an ASUS gaming laptop. I have one and it's amazing
ASUS +1
Had mine for 3+ years has not missed a beat.
Thanks CanOz, Sinner, Prawn And McLovin.
Much appreciated.
Now to the last word in thread title .... Sale
Good time to buy at good price now (EOFY)? ... Where best to buy at good price ?
Like I said, at least personally, it's been literally a decade since CPU and RAM requirements were an issue. These days I would say even the tiniest laptops are over-provisioned for Word and browsing by 30-60%! In my day-to-day role I'm using Google Chrome, Thunderbird and a terminal emulator. Yet my workstation has 7GB of RAM and quad core 2.4GHz processors, which just sit there doing nothing.
Sounds like a good planSo, again, the only reason I'd be interested in a 'new chip' is to take advantage of clearance prices in 'older chips'. It's really unlikely you need the performance, and the price difference can be significant.
DittoBoggo's link is on the money, we buy direct from Lenovo at work and I think it's the safest route.

Again Timmy, and maybe Sinner can answer...but i think there is a new chipset coming out. Could be the reason for the sale. Could be a good time to buy, unless you are interested in paying more for the latest.
