Kim Dotcom

The indivudal lockers would be frozen/seized/raided. The entire warehouse would not be shutdown with no details/information as to how the legitimate warehouse users could get their 'goods'

I meant you shared a warehouse as tenants in common.

If your data is that important, then don't entrust storage to someone else.

But in this case it isn't a shared warehouse, each user has individual online lockers.

I agree with the 2nd point, and it does raise a lot of issues around cloud computing. If sites can be shutdown without warning or notice, or even a timeframe of recovery, by governments then (as Timmy said) what implications does this have for the cloud computing model?

Yes, in the same warehouse. Presumably, the contents of those lockers will form part of the case against Megaupload. The investigation will need to determine the extent of the piracy on Megaupload, which obviously means denying legitimate users access for some period.

If by government you mean courts, then yes. The reality is that 99% of cloud services are not run by criminals. Which makes choosing one pretty easy.

I wonder if that was part of Apple's thinking when they introduced iMatch. The basic difference, as far as I understand, between Apple's implementation of music in the cloud and their competition's, is that the latter require you to upload your music collection to their cloud servers so that you can share the collection with your other devices, whereas Apple match what is in your private library against their huge library and note those that match without uploading yours. When you want to play on an other device, they will stream/download their library copy.

Apple doesn't even care if the copy on your device is not legitimate or even a low bit rate rip, if they find a match in their library they will stream a highest quality (256kbs) version of the tune to your devices.

The only tunes that get uploaded are those for which they haven't found a match, which I presume will be mainly non-commercial tunes that probably don't have copyright issues.

The End of Information Sharing and freedom as we know it.
ACTA - 'The Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement' is a proposed plurilateral agreement for the purpose of establishing international standards on intellectual property rights enforcement.

I fail to see why Kim Dotcom was not granted bail.

Where would he hide?

Perhaps the only city where he would merge in with the populace would be Canberra. It's Bogan suburbs and Federal Parliament exhibit many of his likeness.

Although his cars would clash somewhat with the Pious' and Statesmen.

During his court appearance, Mr Dotcom also complained that he had received unwanted attention from female inmates wanting to become penpals while in custody, the New Zealand Herald reported.

They were attracted, no doubt, to his film star looks.

Any one who got on top of him would be able to say I can see my house from here

I hear there is a new website hosted by the FBI

Farkim.com

  • The Justice Minister has signed an extradition order for Kim Dotcom.
  • Dotcom has been fighting to remain in New Zealand for more than 10 years.
  • Dotcom says he will appeal the latest extradition order.
Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith has told Kim Dotcom, the former Mega Upload owner, that New Zealand will deport him to the US.

Dotcom, a rich lister who the US Government alleges made his fortune from digital piracy, moved to New Zealand in 2010...

There was a time when I would have applauded this reflexly, he is a bit of a rogue on X.com with some peculiar ideas.

Then again the US Justice system is probably a bigger danger to mankind.
