In latests reports, 11 climbers have been swept to their death by an ice fall at the 'Bottle Neck' on K2.

The question I always have when I read of these disasters is what drives sane and usually wealthy 'Westerners' to risk all by climbing up a mountain? It is something I will never understand. Apparently above 8,000m is called the 'death zone' as you are literally dying due to lack of oxygen. So if something goes wrong, you are dead! Insane risk for a reward that I do not understand?
