Good afternoon everyone, and welcome to the January 2014 stock tipping competition entry thread! :)

As we are heading into the Chistmas season I have decided to start the competition entry thread early this month.

This month's stock tipping competition is proudly sponsored by eToro. As the leader in social trading, eToro provides a simple, transparent and enjoyable way to invest and trade in currencies, commodities and indices online. See who is trading what in real-time, follow the best performing traders and automatically copy what the best traders do. It's the smarter way to trade.

With more than 1.5 million users worldwide eToro make financial markets accessible to everyone. Join eToro today and experience the difference for yourself!

A quick recap of the rules for those not familiar with them:

1. You MUST have a minimum of 10 posts to enter.

2. Each entrant may choose one ASX listed stock. Options, warrants and deferred settlement shares are not permitted.

3. Stocks with a price of less than $0.01 are ineligible for the competition, as are stocks that are currently suspended from trading.

4. The winner is the entrant whose selected stock performs the best in percentage terms between January 1 and January 31.

5. The maximum number of entrants in the competition is 100.

The competition winner will receive $100. The second placegetter will win $50 and the third placegetter $25.

You have until midnight on Tuesday, December 31 to enter. However, in practice, entries can be submitted until this thread is closed. No entries submitted after that can be accepted for any reason.

Those who qualify, please post your entries in this thread. Remember, once you have selected your stock, you CANNOT change it for any reason. Also, you must be qualified when you enter.

Each month we usually have some members who do not qualify for the competition but enter anyway. If someone who has selected a stock hasn't yet qualified for the competition, their stock is officially up for grabs! Just mention it when you post your entry.

Best of luck to all entrants! :D

Just a reminder to those entering to please post a brief reason explaining why you chose that particular stock. One or two sentences is enough, although more is always welcome.

If the stock and the reason for entering it are the same as the previous month, please feel free to simply post the same explanation again.

Many thanks! :)

UNX

Uranex has good graphite prospects in Tanzania(Africa)

I take this opportunity to wish Joe and the many fans of the Stock Tipping Competition a successful 2014.

FAR thanks Joe

FAR Limited is the largest holder of exploration licences of any ASX listed oil and gas entity in Africa and has first mover advantage.

Kenya
FAR holds two highly prospective licences with strong farm-out potential in the heart of the Lamu Basin. Kenya's exciting and fast emerging oil and gas margin is drawing the attention of major international players, with close to 100% exploration success in the region and neighbouring areas.

Senegal
With high impact billion barrel potential targets, operator status and a large equity position, FAR is highly leveraged for success in Senegal. Offering world class oil accumulations, deepwater exploration activity in the West African region continues to gain momentum.

Guinea Bissau
Containing an existing oil discovery in shallow water, FAR's offshore Guinea-Bissau blocks offer considerable potential. Exploration and appraisal drilling is likely in 2013, supported by encouraging 3D seismic acquired across the Sinapa discovery and numerous large prospects and leads

It is very far out to predict Joe,

May I have SDL please.

This minnow plays in l'Afrique, a steamy continent, graveyard to many enrepreneurs, Cecil Rhodes included.

A muppet like show, with muppet investors and a muppet price.

Supposed to go gangbusters from 20/12/2013 after some "secret" news is disclosed to a clothed market.

I would guess on past history that it will not be announced, the price will tank and that I will start off 2014 holding SDL at somewhere south of 6c.

Then the "news" will be announced, said muppets will rush in and push it to 60c by the end of January.

GEM please Joe. Taken a bigger hit than deserved imo although growth probably won't outshine a sudden mining discovery. I had this one and sold it... Maybe in error. I have no idea.

AHZ - Admedus, formerly Allied Healthcare Group, for another round.

Possibility exists for favourable announcements in the new year, either from progress in European sales of 'cardiocel' surgical patches, or interim trial results from viral vaccine trials.

But keeping in mind that late January 2014 sees the 12-month aging of Jan 2013 rights issued shares - at $0.02c! - which may prove to be a late head wind if holders choose to sell some, given they'll qualify for the 12-month discount on capital gains tax.

I disclose buckets of AHZ.

Thanks, Joe!

SMA thanks Joe. Income has been going up each month, but share price keeps going down (since I have tipping it ). Maybe January it will turn around Income goes up and so does the share price. Now produces some income from Bitcoin mining - zany form of income hopefully it will work.

I'll go with TPD.

Their first well is drilled and I expect we'll get an idea of production rate next month.

You may think I am, but I take MAD; thanks Joe.
They'll start an extensive drilling program with the new JV partner paying half. It's of course possible that today's news causes a breakout before the New Year, but that 's a risk I'll take. There is also the possibility that it's all a fizzer...
But chart-wise, it's also looking ready to pop - on or around January 3rd. (That's why I hold already a few)

May I also say a big Thankyou to Joe and sponsors for maintaining this competition.
Merry Christmas to all and a happy, healthy, prosperous future for 2014.

Ill go with PYM,thanks Joe.

An announcement is due soon as to their aquisition programme and farm in/partner(or partial sale) in the austin chalks.

Currently at 1.7c and could move decisively on the right news.

NEN please.

To be honest, I don't know anything about them, but I saw they performed well last month so am taking a stab at it :D

IMF

Fundamentally very strong but this may not lead to any specific percentage gains in the near term until they announce their dividend/financial results (which should be quite good). The stock has been stuck within a trading range for some time. The buyers/sellers have been locked in at a very steady price for two days before the last trading day which saw a relatively low volume but wide selling candle. Those who are bullish are holding right now and the last of the sellers are dumping their stock. Therefore, we may see a breakout within the next month (not that I would bet on that with real money - but for the stock tipping competition sure!)

VB thanks Joe, looking for more positive news from AVB as they go forward to production.

Greetings and Happy New Year to Joe and all of ASF mates .

I am opting for GNG. It is low traded and purely speculation.

AOK please Joe.

Out on a limb here but with production of this small oiler passing the 1000bpd, the continuation of good news and the SP being range bound for so long, AOK is well overdue for a re-rate.

Cheers.:xyxthumbs
