Formula One legend Michael Schumacher was on Sunday unveiled as "the Stig", the mystery man who test drives cars on British cult motoring show Top Gear.

The identity of the white-clad driver is kept a closely guarded secret, but Schumacher, who was Formula One world drivers' champion seven times, finally revealed himself in the first of a new series of the show on Sunday night.

Presenter Jeremy Clarkson pretended not to recognise him at first, asking him what he used to do before he became famous as the Stig, but then excitedly shouted to the studio audience: "It's Michael Schumacher!"

Former Formula One driver Perry McCarthy was Top Gear's original Stig, who dressed all in black during the first two series.

I dont think he is the Stig, where would he get the time to spend so much time in North London?????

Yes he was on the show dressed in the outfit, but we need more evidence than that.

He wouldnt exactly be doing for money or to kill time. He has plenty of other things he can do.

They're just pulling a stunt! They have never revealed a stigs identity before so why would they start. They're deliberately leading people on, its what they do.

No way would he be the stig.

I think its a cover up, didn't they say at the end of the show that it wasn't actually him? He's too involved with Ferrari still.

Seems to me they are trying to hide the real ones identity because it nearly got leaked a while back?

Looking forward to seeing the new season though!

Oh Spoil sport! If Top Gear say he is then he must be.

Of course it is all about publicity..maybe their ratings were slipping down...

Who knows?... they may fly Schumacher over for every show. I imagine the budget would allow that.

I think there are several drivers who take on the role of the Stig, Schumacher works for Ferrari and it just so happens the FXX is featured this week ?????


Put it this way, they wont let Clarkson, et al even touch it, so MS was the Stig and drove the Ferrari.
