Looks like you can blame the almost certain rate rise in November on:

Apples
Oranges
Pears
Peaches
etc.

Last time we suffered a rate rise it was blamed on bananas :eek:

God peoples....just stop eating fruit :rolleyes:

The strange thing is that people got sucked into the tripe that sprouted out little Johnny's mouth regarding lower interest rates, just before his re-election.

Lower interest rates and setting rates have almost nothing to do with little Johnny.

We are all wiser, older, and more educated now....aren't we!

...and we can sprout off about the rates hitting 17% back in the 80's but its all relative and those 17% interest rates are here right now!

3 rate rises this year secures little Johnny's exit.....THANKGOD!

I don't think Bomber can win an election. He eats too much of the campaign funds. Julia G will be the next Labor PM.

Who was in power when interest rates were highest? Infact when ever interest rates are at their peak?

interest rates have nothing to do with the government. they are set by an independant body called the reserve bank. even though Johnny may have said he will try and keep interst rates low in the end he doesn't control them. the fact is that people are earning and spending mopre then ever which is one of the main reasons why interest rates are going up.
 
Ya stop bagging the government, they do a reasonable job i think. I think that JH is the best leader out there TODAY. Now i could well be saying something completely different if the opposition was different but it isnt so here you go just my $0.02 :)

Treasurer : John Howard
When: about 25 years ago.

Funny how our politicians never mention that Australian interest rates are largely influenced by international events rather than local ones. Or is Johnny trying to convince us he's really running the US government and the Fed rather than just being Prime Minister of Australia?

If Little Johnny can claim credit for the booming Australian economy that is riding on the back of the WORLD'S demand for resources, why not???

John Howard at no stage that I recall said he would control interest rates.
He suggested that there was more likelihood of interest rates being contained under a Liberal government than Labor. I agree with him.

Btw, why do so many of you who dislike the government feel it necessary to make perjorative comments about John Howard's physical stature? Why say "little Johnny"? Make your arguments by all means, but show some maturity by not bringing a person's physical stature into your arguments.
I notice that it's very rare for Kim Beazley's size to be referred to when quoting something he has said or promised.

And to all of you who are so critical of our present government, how exactly do you believe Labor would be better?

Don't ladle out the criticism unless you can provide a rational alternative.

Julia, are you sure your first name's not Janette?

In regard to interest rates, sure, an independane body sets them but only due to the current economic conditions which are dictated by world economics and the policies the government sets in regard to our own economic condition. The Reserve Bank has a very important part to play, but it's a hand in glove approach and if not, we fall in the big poo pile. The current govenrment have been lucky to some degree with world economic cycles including the Chindia driven resources boom which has keep the Aust economy pumping while others have faded. Luck plus good management.

Yes I agree too, the housing market Australia wide is over-hyped, over-priced it needs a massive correction and also needs to be accounted for.

The baby boomers are resposible for this mess, and generation X and Y are paying a huge price for their greed!

Now stop buying IPods and start saving for those cheaper houses! :rolleyes:

Maybe we need to have an extra disclaimer showing our political leanings :)

I can remember trying to run a business with 25% overdraft rates and believe me we did not have any money left over to be buying anything like an Ipod.

Back in 74-75 era that was the OPEC thing, but the recession we had to have was created here in Oz

I'm actually a swinging voter, definitely not rusted on to the Liberal Party.
In fact, if an election were to be held tomorrow I'd probably vote Labor purely on the basis of their policy of withdawing our troops from Iraq.
Philosophically I lean to the left but the Labor Party's disarray in recent years has been such that I couldn't bring myself to vote for them, especially when Mark Latham was there. Kim Beazley is sounding a bit more coherent and rational these days.
