So, today on twitterRann announces the next state election day will be 20 March 2010 AND
on the same day announces that the SA Government will launch a High Court battle for upstream states to release more water into the Murray

He obviously thinks water will be an election issue.
The only trouble is, the deadline to build a weir, and flood the lower Murray lakes with seawater (which will basically kill all the flora and fauna 50 kms upstream) is in April 2009, which means that once again, the only people to win from this High Court battle will be the lawyers.
And so much for the Monumental agreement signed by Rudd et al; which was obviously just the ruse to get a good photo opportunity.
I just hope the electorate dont buy it!
And while I am on SA's water issue; one of the Councils has implemented storm water retrieval for his Council; they can sell water cheaper than SA Water as a result. But our Govt refuses to even look at it - why? Because it will bring down the cost of water and the Govt needs this money for its budget. This scheme would supply enough water for us not to need the Murray, and no de-sal plant.
Chops a Must was right after all!
we could sell some of the water floating around up here in north queensland at the moment! then again, im sure we might just need it ...

..
Do you know that the Qld premier has said that not one drop of water is going to be allowed south, so they have ramped up the selling of water licences!
..
I understand your point, Trevor, but usually governments get voted out rather than in, i.e. in the forthcoming Qld election, I'm so sick of Labor and all their stuff-ups I will vote for the LNP, but I have little faith that they will be much better. So far there are no viable Independent candidates. One can only assume the majority of people are happy , after all we get the Government we deserve. I lost any faith over 2 decades ago and have seen nothing change.
Any Country that is happy to vote a full time bureaucrat into the office of Primeminister, truly do deserve the Government(s) they get.
I don't blame Politicians at all, I look around me and lay the blame squarely at the feet of the voters.
