In 1516, the Ottoman Turks invaded and occupied Palestine, an occupation that lasted for 402 years (1516-1918), except for the 9 years between 1831 and 1840, when the Egyptian Governor Muhammad Ali sent his troops to capture Palestine under the command of his son Ibrahim Pasha.

As Palestine under Turkish rule fought alongside Turkey in WW1, British troops invaded defeating the Ottoman Turks.  Thus an agreement took place which eventually set up Israel after WW2. So territories lost by Palestine were due to their defeat in WW1 - part of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919.

Australians did not invade Modern Turkey but the AIF (Australian Imperial Force) fought as part of the ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) which was part of the British Empire Force that attacked the Ottoman Empire at the Gallipoli peninsula during the First World War.

On 25 April 1915, 16,000 Australians and New Zealanders, together with British, French and Indian troops, landed on the Gallipoli peninsula. The invasion was part of a campaign to: capture the peninsula and help naval operations in the Dardanelles straits.
