Hi all,

Does anybody have any experience/costing etc with developing an iPhone app? I've been scouting around but it has been tough to find decent information.

Any help on the topic at all would be greatly appreciated

Pretty sure Apple take a 30% cut of every download.

Thats my understanding, 30%

Reasonable really as its out there on the shelf to be downloaded.

Yeah i'd read that but as GG noted - they provide the channel and host it...so im happy. It's the coding/development side that i'm trying to get info about - it's hard to quantify a cost for something when there is little info for Australians

Software development is a little like a piece of string...in that its hard to quantifie just what's in it, anyway if you cant fluently write code then your gona have to pay someone big bickys to do it.

This is the main problem. If you have an idea, but cant code it yourself, you are going to have to contract someone etc, and then have appropriate legal docs in place to avoid the idea been stolen/modified etc

Well i'm not a twin so just have to avoid any Zuckerbergs MACH II :

Sadly it looks like it will be big bickies (coding is not my forte) and legal wrangling. Shame that everything has to be like this!

I'm actually looking into this now.

There are a few aussie companies that do app development so i have requested a quote off a cuople of them and when i talk to them in detail i will ask regarding the privacy side of things. IE - How do i ensure they dont develop competing apps.

I would contact Apple they will tell you what is required and I reckon they would protect you because they want more Apps.

Speaking of apps i have a recital some thing like Austyntatus? version of Australian any idea about getting that off the ground?

PRawn - would you mind telling me the companies or PMing me?

I contacted a few in the US but they weren't that helpful.

Hey Tell
all Brilliant.
There are some very clever people out there.

Will be looking into this in more detail when i return from 3 months of mid this year. Basically the app development companies sign a non-disclosure agreement before you start the development

Thanks for the info. I'm working with friends (1 is a programmer) to see how far we can get without calling in the experts.

Have you got any quotes?

Prices range from $80 - $200 per hour. My idea will probably have about 80 hours work. What i would like to do is sell the idea and just retain a small % interest, but not a lot of developers are willing to do revenue share
