Hi,

Just wondering what are people's views on the recent Indian students rioting over alleged racism claims?

Personally seeing them riot it makes me less sympathetic to what they are trying to say simply because of the way they are trying to convey the message .....;
 
Somewhat detracts from their 'soft target' claims....

Regardless the bashings/muggings that have occurred are a disgrace, and something does need to be done...

I heard a co-worker comment that most of the bashings were caused by other ethnic minorities... ie Lebanese and Sudanese... I have no idea how much truth there is to that...
 

alot of truth to it. It's an old issue that the police task force have been dealing with for sometime, until it reared it's ugly head coutesy of the media exploiting specific incidents as racial.
 
As an indian myself I am embarresed by their behaviour.
There are 10s of thousands of Indians living in Sydney and Melbourne, a few hundred students are a small majority and do not reflect the view of general society, nor the Indian community.

Regardless of you nationality, the incidence of crime is the same for everyone.
It just so happens that they live in bad neighbourhoods, many take night jobs, and many work as taxi drivers. Its the nature of their lifestyle which makes them targets, not the colour of their skin.

This is just an excuse to get on TV and give their parents an excuse for why they failed their exams.

PS. University exams are on right now, they should be studying, not protesting.

Edit: The Indian media is also having a field day on this issue.
India is one of the most racist nations of earth, they are not one to talk about tolerance, the Muslims, Hindus, Seikhs, Buddists and Christians have been fighting for years. For every indian student mugged in Australia, 10 Indians loose their lives back home.
 

Very true, know quite a few Indians who feel the same way.
 
pretty certain I posted something here yesterday ...apparently in Sydney the Indians are moving into the Lebanese suburbs....and the Lebanese are the ones attacking them.....more like a turf war
different to the Cronulla riots..then it was the white beach boys against the Lebanese...
apparently in Vic we are not allowed to use the word 'race''' or we are called racists....but the security cameras shown on the news, show other nationalities are involved in a lot of robberies.... against anyone else...
 
I'd be interested to hear their thoughts on if they'd do exactly the same thing back home in cities of similar size.

Would they carry their laptops around & have their phones and wallets on display late at night on a train in say... Mumbai?

I don't think so some how, but when they get attacked they claim it's racist...

I think that they're soft targets, that's it.

i think we need pauline hansons learned response on this, and perhaps the chk chk boom chick can also be a witness to that..

from what i hear the incidence of violence in the areas are not higher than before, nor are they higher towards any race

it gets beaten up a little and then its at boiling point.

there was a dick who got off the train i believe in melbourne and had a comment to say at the indian vigilante squad, mind you he did say "go back to where you came from".. the result was an overnight hospital stay to repair the holes they put in him with some blades..

common sense is not being shown by many on this, and its obvious the sydney problem is race related to primarily two ethnic groups, where as i would not be surprised if the melb trouble has a kick from some nasty race haters who also appeared in the cronulla incident..

i personally know of no one who feels racist towards anyone in melbourne, but i think the issue needs community based intervention by the grass roots workers.. bring the groups together and demonstrate the majority dont have the attitude the media so beautifully portray as the absolute truth

The Indian people in Townsville are good people.

Many are tertiary qualified, doctors, engineers, and many work or study at the Uni, JCU.

The self funded students work the taxis and in stores about town.

They are good migrants to have, hard working and keen to assimilate.

If the Indian students want equality they should come out in frankston one friday night. Everyone gets bashed no matter what race they are.

But seriously this is a joke, so many different races of people get bashed every day, why do the indians get special treatment?

if you ask me, and i know you didnt, it is the indians being racist by making a violence issue, especially in melbourne, about them.

when i am on the trains and trams they seem to only go a few stops, pushie would be the easiest solution

Amazing diversity of views, I always thought labeling "Australia" as racist was a slag off at the older generations going back to the white Australia policy. However politics changed with Gough Whitlam and Malcolm Fraser and Australia is now a true multicultural country. Thats not to say it is perfect and we are full of tolerance, understanding and brotherly love.

The biggest "race" problems experienced in Australia, these days, is the ethnic groups that want to keep the prejudices they bought with them to Australia and lash out at other ethnic groups in Australia. We've seen it in the soccer clashes and now clashes between Lebonese and Indians has bubbled to the surface courtesy of the media. The cops should be video-ing the carloads of ethnics that drive across sydney with their baseball bats and blades and follow through with them.

As for the Indians burning efigies of "uncle kev" in India, maybe they should get their own house in order first.

Anyone notice trouble follows the Lebanese all over the world, France, Canada, Australia......

I have to say, I know a few great Lebanese guys who hate the 'fully sick ones', but in general, they are the worst group of people on the planet IMVHO. I cannot stand even looking at them and when I go out to night spots, I go to ones that do not let them in. Yes, call me racist, I probably am when it comes to this minority group (as a generalization).
 

Yes, I also like Indians and Asians (except those Asians that walk on the street next to eachother, so slow they block you trying to walk past and are completely oblivious too it. That gets on my nerves, especially after a bad trading day)!
 
Haha MRC that annoys me too. I've personally seen heaps of asian people who are nice enough but are just oblivious to everything and everyone around them. Like this guy standing in the middle of the bus with noone standing behind him and people piling on at the front with no where to go. He didn't move back until the driver shouted at him.

Not racist, just an observation.

Regarding the Indians protest, I agree with just about everyone else saying they have no reason to complain. People of all races get bashed for no reason all the time unfortunately, in very few cases it occurs because of their race. This protest will just make them targets in my opinion and will only make things worse.
 

Tbh from the little that I have seen in the media, it doesn't seem like the Indian students do themselves too many favours by not making much of an effort to integrate with the Australian way of life. Or am I being unfair? There are proabably heaps of second generation Indians that have made the transition. Maybe the reason they live in the outer suburbs is because it's the only areas they can afford, and sticking with your own kind naturally affords some kind of protection, real or psychological?

It's a tough one to sort out, as these race issues usually are. But those blockheads in India whining on are getting on my nerves.
 

Haha..old mate! I am of Asian decent, I find that quite annoying too. But, I guess there will always be "stand-outs" to each race that give it the bad rep ...
 
Yeah of course Trinity. It's impossible to classify every member of a certain race as one type of person, there's good and bad in every race obviously.
