The Immigration Department says more than 100 Chinese nationals who allegedly paid an immigration officer to become Australian citizens will be allowed to stay.
A man charged over the incident was yesterday refused bail by a Sydney court.
A case against his co-accused was also mentioned briefly in court yesterday, and both matters have been adjourned until October.
A spokeswoman for the department says legislation is now being tightened to give it the powers to remove citizenship where there is third-party fraud involved.
Amazing, that this is not illegal already.
