Idea - Post of the Week

thought we could create a little encouragement to raise the bar.

How about once a week we have a vote on which post we found most useful during the week......

??

will hopefully raise the morale and standard of posts....

I guess to make it work we would need a round of nominations in order to put together a short list to vote on.

It's certainly a possibility.

I agree Joe. It has potential and would possibly be better done as a monthly event with nominations.

I find the idea good on one hand although there is the danger that too many new threads could be started, forgetting that maybe a similar or an older thread could exist. The user may loose his or her overview.
It would be nice if the forum-categories would appear on your homepage.

:iagree: - every week might be too often and monthly or fortnightly time frames might be more appropriate and easier to manage for whoever is going to administer it.

Just some thoughts off the top of my head to help get the ball rolling:

1) Maybe create a new forum called something like "Most Helpful Posts/Threads of the Month" or whatever

2) Within the above forum create a thread called something like "Monthly Nominations" with sub-threads for each month for posters to nominate their most helpful threads/posts by either copy/pasting them or quoting dates/times/aliases of their favourite posts. These can be deleted after each month.

3) Within the "Most Helpful......" forum in (1) create a thread called something like "Most Appreciated Posts/threads for Month MMM-YYYY" into which you can insert the actual "winning" posts or links to the posts and/or threads from the Nominations threads in (2)

Anyway, the above is just food for thought to help get things rolling and there are probably better ways of doing it but this is the best I can do atm just having finished brekky

thinking a bit more about this (must be a slow news day today ) and assuming you would want us users to vote on the "best" posts/threads each month, then on the 1st of each month a thread with a polling option in it could be set up with either all or a selected short list of posts/threads from the previous month's nominees for users to vote on.

Then allow maybe 3,4,5 or whatever days for users to vote and then take the top 1,2,3 or whatever most voted for posts/threads as the "best" for the previous month. This would be a much more useful and productive use of this software's poll feature
