Hi guys,

I was just wondering for those that trades stocks, how do you find your targets? eg. when I first started trading last year, I began with shares, and bought BHP and the likes simply because I have heard of the company. Soon after I moved to futures and forex, where you have limited number of products to trade, hence pretty easy to find a focus.

Whenever I come onto the forum I see all these mentions of other stocks which I've never heard of before, any many don't seem to be in any indices as such, and I was just wondering how do you guys keep track with the large number of stocks available? ie. do you go by a particular indice, or do you get your picks from reading the news (not as buy/sell advice but purely to find out about companies which you may not have heard of before)?

Thanks for any comments.

Newsletters, newspapers, general business news websites, stock scanner (chart screening or fundamental ratio filters), top movers, top volumes etc.

And last but not least, ASF.

12 watch lists with 20 stocks each, by sector or some other relevant (to me) criteria.

Look for a sector which i believe will do good in the future, then look for stocks within that sector, then read the PDS to see if they're not too much in debt.

How do i know what sector to look at? Watch the news, read forums etc

Every Sunday I spend a couple hours researching a few random companies from a spread sheet of 654 companies classified as 'Materials' by asx.
