Im trying to work out my average price for one of my shares.

Bought 5 packets, each at a different price, how do I get my average holding price?

TIA

I knocked this spreadsheet up as a bit of a joke, but it will do the job.

Put the inputs into the cells with yellow background.

Can be used with Excel, Open Office, or Google docs

Work out the total price paid for the 5 packets,

and then divide the total price paid by the number of shares. This will give you the price per share.

ie if you bought:
100 shares at $1 - paid $100
75 shares at 1.20 - $90
33 shares at 1.40 - $46.20
200 shares at 1.55 - $310
25 shares at 2.00 - $50

Total paid - $596.20
divided by 433 shares

avg paid per share $1.37690531

If you wanted to know how long you have held the shares, however, you will need substantially more computing power.

(Inside joke)

You should simply be able to choose "Average Price" setting onyour portfolio page of your online broker. It's all done for you.
