How do I set up Amibroker for the ASX?

Hi ppl,

Ive seen the answer to this question prior to registering but cant seem to find the answer again, it was in the middle of another thread somewhere, I have looked before posting.
How do I set AB up for ASX plz.
I went through Howards Introduction to AB a couple of times and couldnt find what I needed.

Also in Howards intro I copy/pasted the code in his examples and some of them come up with a syntax error, is it just me or the copy/paste ?

Here's a ticker list. Save it in notepad as x. Then AB>file>import wizard>pick files x>next>check no quotation data>columns2-7 = skip>next. Now you have your ticker list.

One of the problems that often occurs with copy / paste is the double quote marks -- such as in the title in Plot statements. AmiBroker wants them to be the straight up and down variety. If they look curved, do a search / replace to make them straight.

Also look for unintended line breaks. AmiBroker ignores white space, so a line break where there is already a space does not cause a problem, but if it occurs within a variable's name it will cause a compiler error.

Do you need to add .AX to any of those codes?
I'll give it a crack later. Will this be for intra/end of day data as well?

Gringotts Bank - I tried importing the list the exact method you suggested and it comes up with: '1 errors occured during import process', 'do you want to see the error log'
The error log states:

Logging started for 'C:\Users\ASUS\Documents\Investing\x.txt' file, using format definition file 'Formats\wizard.format'
Error in line ZYLTicker symbol is empty (unknown)

Then when I tried removing ZYL, it just moved the error to the ticker above, then removed that one and so on so forth.

When it asks you if you want to see the error log, click no. Then just check to see if ZYL has been imported because all the others will have been. If it's not there (unlikely), add it manually by:

AB>symbol>new>type ZYL

So far all you have is a list, no data. If you want to try importing from Yahoo or MSN, add .AX suffix or AU: prefix to each of the symbols using a spreadsheet. Then open Amiquote and click AQ>tools>get symbols from AB, and it will populate the screen. Then choose AQ>source>Yahoo historical/MSN histoical and start. Make sure automatic import is checked. Don't make the date ranges too big. Try 1 month.

MSN data is better than Yahoo in general. Both are free so you will see some errors and gaps and so on. For about $60 you can buy good quality fully adjusted historical data back to 2000.
 
Take the list I PM'd, import it as per the instructions on this thread. That's all you need to do. The data will last so long as you keep AB window open. When you register your copy of AB, the data will stay saved on closing the program.

Your inbox is full, here's the reply;

When I click 'get tickers from amibroker it works all good (deleted the US tickers etc).
But, when I click 'auto update' or 'get last update date' - then it comes up with: error during download. 404 not found - could be cause from wrong ticker. etc

However, when I go back to a blank set and type AU:ANZ it comes up with the error, if I type in ANZ.AX it works and imports fine. - So I must only need to change the suffix around.

Any quick way to re-arrange it or find a list with it already written like so.

Once this is done, how do I go about selecting how far back of a date I want to select as currently its only back to September.

Hi mate,

Did all that, it states its imported when I search for it in AB it displays it needs 3 bars at least etc etc. It's now 10:40am so I assume it should have at least enough data by today...perhaps not. I'll try again at 11am if for some reason this is the problem.

Will I need to import the list from AB into AQ and run the MSN Historical every time I need to look at charts?
Is a better solution to perhaps create a watch list and just run lists at a time?

Go to AQ, click "play" again, then double click on any one of the symbols in AQ and tell me what it says in the window that opens up.
 
If you can reply within a minute or so, that would help, because it's starting to get a bit ridiculous! This whole process from start to finish should take 5 minutes.... instead it's taking 5 days.

AQ > 'Get Tickers from AB > MSN Historical > Play - double click on a known company ticker that actually still exists (AU:AGI) > $NAME AU:AGI

ok, in AQ, have you checked the "automatic import" box? Is there a tick in the box?
