Guys,

I couldn't find a specific answer about it, so I opened a new thread.

Yes, I know what Chess sponsored is but couldn't find much info about SRN.

How I do buy shares without a broker? Is there any catchy?

I'm talking about domestic investment – ASX listing.

Cheers!

CommSec ?

I suppose they are technically brokers but you don't actually have to talk to anyone, just do it online.

if you want to obtain shares without a broker:
ipo
demerger
given shares by coy in lieu of something like wages (or as a bonus)

it is not a 'normal' way to obtain shares and the catch is you will find it difficult to dispose of them (if held via a registry). For asx listed - You cannot buy asx listed shares in the way you are describing - you need to use the broker method.

Depends on what you define as a broker? Use online platforms Commsec, CMC, IG Markets etc if not wanting to use a stockbroker. Though you will still be charged a fee for their service in transacting the trade.

As for SRN (Security Reference Number) these are not normally associated with broker accounts unlike CHESS holdings. Some sites will sell a single holding for you at minimal or no cost (read the fine print).

Really depends on what you are specifically seeking to purchase an interest in or sell?

off market transfer . usually between family members , to trusts etc but I dont think there are any rules as to who it can be transferred to. can probably be used to tranfer shares to a borrower to short sell?
Transferring shares - how can I transfer shares to another member of my family or any other person? i.e. an off-market transfer?

Off-market transfers of securities between parties without using a stockbroking firm as the intermediary are executed through the use of a Transfer Form for Non-Market Transactions(PDF). Off-market transfers of securities held on the CHESS sub-register are effected electronically through CHESS. The form is not required for transfers through CHESS. For this type of transfer you will need to go through your stockbroker.

Off-market transfers are usually private arrangements between family members or transfers from deceased estates. To obtain an 'Australian Standard Transfer Form' please contact the share registry of the company whose shares you wish to transfer. For advice on completing the form please consult your stock broker or financial planner.

There is no stamp duty payable on share transactions throughout Australia.
