Mr Frog not so sure about trades missing out. After seeing some massive prefab warehouses being constructed, that is the pre cast walls, the tradies then move in.Even wo going that far, precast walls, prebuilt roof frame as used in warehouses could build a house in no time and then stick utilities, insulation and cover with plasterboard on the inside and you are cruising...
But you need major corporation building these, not an army of tradies and utes so employment in australia would collapse
othing wrong with this kind of housing as long as the persons nose isn't stuck up in the air. Looks to be very acceptable housing, as long as the pricing isn't over the top.
Sure people sleeping on the street now or maybe a potential problem in 20y for remodelling..and i have no issue with that kitchen. The suburb of O'Conner in Canberra was essentially all Tocumwal housing. Have a look at the delightful kitchen in this one.

After moving from the Burbs 43 years to the Scarp, that house was on stumps. An oldie but cool in summer and not too bad in winter with a blazing slow combustion wood fire going. Was a home, not just a house. Maintenance was easy. Access from the top and underneath, unlike most homes these days sitting on a concrete slab.Sure people sleeping on the street now or maybe a potential problem in 20y for remodelling..and i have no issue with that kitchen.
All internal walls anyway do not have to be 5cm deep cement plate, plenty of sandwitched materials available between expanded cement you can cut with a hand saw and plaster wood composite etc.
Just to say that any look at a european building show be it grand design or otherwise will show you much better options than the matchstick option used here where any 20y old house has to be repaired for dry rot, wet rot or termite damages .
So far ,of the various houses i have owned:After moving from the Burbs 43 years to the Scarp, that house was on stumps. Good point , important point ... probably one to explore in the "Future of Property Prices" thread...But if the problem is too dear housing and no one wants to tackle the real issue: council gouging on fees and exemption, red rape, then prefab could help , not luxury future trailer park called eco tiny houses

Its not a new phenomenon, Neatline homes in Shepparton has been doing this for 35 years.Homes built off-site and trucked to the regions are being proposed as a quick solution to Queensland's housing affordability issues, but some builders say the approach isn't sustainable.
- Prefabricated houses are built in a warehouse then placed onsite
- Master Builders Queensland says relying on flatpack homes isn't a salve to housing shortages, but all options should be looked at
- Australia's offsite construction industry sees growth areas in the regions, affordable housing and retirement living
A social housing plan, which the Department of Public Works says is the state's most ambitious construction program since World War II, will see housing projects built across regional Queensland using "modern methods of construction".
Its delivery will be accelerated thanks to a newly operating Rapid Accommodation and Apprenticeship Centre at Eagle Farm in Brisbane.
The factory will pre-fabricate wall frames and bathroom pods, as well as assemble flatpack kitchens for transport to areas that need social housing.
Prefabrication refers to any part of a building that has been fabricated anywhere other than its final location.
The intention is to enable a forward pipeline of factory-built homes that can be stored offsite and transported to regional communities on demand.
By the end of the year, 93 builds are expected to be delivered, including 14 on Palm Island, 12 homes each for Winton and Texas, eight in Blackall, six in Wondai, three each in Inglewood, Tambo and Mornington Island, and two each in St George and Surat.
It's hoped the housing will attract critical government workers.
No quick fix
Les Boyton runs a Toowoomba company that builds kit homes and transportable homes for regional communities in the Darling Downs and South West.
The company constructs a home in two parts before it is trucked to its final location, where power and plumbing are connected.
It has just finished a project that will become social housing for residents in Boggabilla, funded by the state government.
as a ' baby boomer ' maybe the baby-boomers bought without the 'assistance' of a bank , after all who offers a 25 or 30 year mortgage to somebody around 70 years , not to mention such a loan at interest only termsSometimes the rhetoric about a topic becomes somewhat removed from the reality of the stats.
Housing is one of them.

So the much aligned baby boomers who have been blamed for the housing crisis made up up 10% of the investor pool last year.
Bet you won't hear that stat thrashed around the dinner table any time soon.
