Hi All,

I am thinking about purchasing a home gym setup and was wondering if anybody here can recommend anything?

Just pick one up from a 2nd hand store or garage sale, as thats where most home gyms end up.

Home gyms are just space wasters and dust collecters in most homes and end up out on the street for hard rubbish day!

LOL not having a dig at all, that reply just made me laugh when i read it.

yeah i have been looking around for awhile but i dont want something crap, i have trained quite a bit over the years but i live out of town so dont have the luxury to go to a gym.

Just been out of the retail game for ages so was sort of looking for some opinions on what out there is quality equipment.

There is so called good stuff thats available on the web, but you never really know until you get it home?

Check out the places in the city that sell 2nd hand commercial gear from shop refits and such, you will be a heap ahead of any home gym. Not much market for gym gear and I've bought a heap over the years for scrap.

What a great handle although a tad "smelly"!! (l.o.l.) .

Why don't you go check out places like "SportSmart" and the millions of other retail outlets that sell "Home fitness equipment"?

You can easily pick up a great little home gym (weight training) set-up for around $500 at cheapest, up to over $1,000.

I would suggest: don't be TOO fussy...it is ALL pretty well made stuff these days and there is so much to choose from!

Personally, I have had good experiences with "SportSmart" and "Manic Fitness" outlets and their prices are always very good and competitive!

Welll you are in the "general chat" section of a share trading forum...

And traders need to keep fit after having sat in front a computer executing your trades.

there you go..........just posted my last post ,and my wife wakes up and walks into my office without saying good morning ,and gives me three chores to get on with,and its only 8.40am.......The moral of this is 'getting married is cheap,getting divorce is expensive', ........Save your money mate,want to get fit get married!
 
3 views,why does your wife have to tell you what chores need doing,shouldn`t you already be doing those without being told
maybe the gym guy does his chores without being told hence his interest in fitness.Yes I`m a wife,

Thanks for the replies, there is only 3 main sports retailers up here in TSV which have a bit of gear. My main reason for the post was for opinions on equipment quality and suitability etc.

Yeah as someone else stated this is the "General" Forum We can talk about anything in here no?

Hi,

I had a home gym for years, it was just a cheap one about $600 plus the cost of weights. The thing you really need to look at is the wires (pulleys whatever they are called) because they are the things that need replacing most often and they aren't cheap. My gym had a stepper on it, which was great, but the wires kept breaking from overuse

I used it every day for years. But the best investment I made was to pay $30 for a personal trainer to come out once and show me what to do. He gave me a plan to follow and told me how to increase it all at my own pace.

Maybe just a bench, barbells, dumbells and a whole heap of plates will do the trick. You could virtually do everything with a setup like that. Back, arms, chest and legs can be covered easily with this equipment.

easy. buy bench, second or new, about 200$ max. Go to garage sales or look on nature strips. Ex's always get rid of guys weights bar bell etc. or go to warehouse and buy 15K plates for 10$ and dumbell set. Easy. Next get on ebay and buy power rack. i bought one for 80$. Postage was more expensive than the rack itself. It took a while to erect but is good. For good overall dumbell workout:

I use this and replace some exercises with barbell and power rack. Easy. Lots of space but hit every muscle and no spotter required. Cheers.

I'm NOT a moderator so don't take this as official ASF policy but the short answer is "yes" as long as it's not offensive language, promoting illegal activities etc.

The last time I lifted something bigger than a schooner I swore and there has to be something illegal about a home gym. All that sweat and the rotten thing hasn't moved!
