Hi,
New to trading and to this forum. came here because thought it may be good idea like minded met and to search for help on topics. i have a charting ware but am stuck with finding historical data for last 5-10 yrs which doesn't cost an arm or a leg. Can someone please share? have not traded or bought shares yet. so need to do research for a while and study too. cheers. great to be here.

If you have a CommSec account you can dowload prices from there. Also cooltrader has free data the day after (though you have to register). Also try yahoo groups.

And I know that you can buy the last 10 years from cooltrader for less than $100 - asx equities

(At least you used to be able to)

Thanks guys. I do have an a/c with Commsec. I am only able to download daily data for the indices. would that include data on a stock since inception?
I have metastock but am wrestling with conversion issues.

Getting historical data from Comsec can be a bit painful. You can get EOD data for all stocks for one date at a time, or you can get historical prices back at least 10 years for one stock at a time. Both of which would be time consuming for what you're after.

To get the prices in Comsec, click on the 'News & Research tab on the left hand side, then put your mouse over 'charts' on the top menu and select 'End of Day Data'.

I still think www.float.com.au would be quicker for what you're after, although it is free data, so the accuracy of it is not guaranteed - you get what you pay for ...:)
