Should any of our media outlets even consider hosting David Hicks, I for one will boycott that station or outlet for evermore.

I call on all ASF posters to do likewise.

DH has served his time, but his rehabilitation should not involve profit for him or any of his associates or family.

He should get on with his life and live with the mistakes of his past.

Sixty Minutes will get a mighty backlash if it considers hosting this fellow.

I think he has a right to profit from it, i would want to.

He was detained illegally for years on end with total disregard for the Geneva convention. I hope he makes a motza out of it.

PS - This is not endorsing whatever he did or did not do, just highlighting the fact that the powers above get away with breaking the law all the time so why shouldnt others...

To be sent to Guantanamo Bay.
Then Adelaide.
Now Channel Nine.

Hasn't he been punished enough?

:bricks1:

I believe he should be allowed to tell his story for profit, as long as 100% of it goes towards Amnesty International, Red Cross, or another suitable organisation.

If it is for his own, or for the majority of his own benefit, I don't believe it's too right.

well I'd enjoy having a conversational beer with the man - try to discover the man behind the myth.

ask him what it was like fighting in Kosovo - was that before or after the West realised there was a problem, etc.

I guess at the end of the day, he is exercising his right in a free country to derive a lawful income.

We should celebrate that right, not create a totalitarian censored society.

We have the freedom to watch or not to watch, boycott or not boycott.

It's all good.

Agree with the punishment, although he's been moved from Adelaide, and was released from Guantanamo Bay. then again they bring Ray Martin back to really stick the boot in. lol

Seriously though he's admitted to fighting alongside some loonies whose sworn aim is to destroy our civilisation and way of life, I don't feel he should profit from this.

Personally - likewise not endorsing what he did... but equally aghast at the illegal detention and torture of unmates in GB. ... conspicuously and intentionally outside US soil in order to flaunt the agreed conventions.

- I reckon he should be able to tell his story, and we should be able to hear it. I want to hear it from the horses mouth.

As far as I'm aware he is not legally allowed to profit from it... so if he hasn't been paid, or if he has asked for a donation to a charity then good on him.

On another note... Ch9 has been really annoying lately... has anyone noticed a new level of idiotic sensationalism???
all about nothing???
*K-Rudd's wifes fashion... who cares
*Tanya Whats-er-name.... who cares
*Cold storage apples... well derrr... nothing new under the sun....fresh apples are only available for a few months if that.

Other commercial channels are almost as bad. Only ABC and SBS have any semblance of quality control ....
rant rant rant

blah blah blahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

:topic ok ok - Tanya might be the working man's dreamgirl...
but gee, lol - the fact or fiction that she did or didn't (and probably didn't but what business is it of ours !!!) have sex with a soldier in Afghanistan or Iraq !! lol ...

even ABC really analysing that one to the nth degree lol.

PS - have any of these TV channels heard of the concept of consenting adults

Garpal old Pal, I feel sorry for you. You have the same mentality as the old wild west lynchem party.

The only story that is out at this stage on David Hicks is the story that the system wants you to have. That system is the US of A standover one. People like the Hicks case serve to divert attention from the need at all cost to control the Middle East for oil.

It is interesting of late that Pakistan is doing deals across the boarder with the Taliban. America is supplying the arms for the effort in Aphganistan and they are also propping up and supplying arms to Pakistan. Get real and think about that for a moment. Who's making the profits and at the same time trying to control the oil cartels.

David Hicks was just a misguided young colt, experimenting with an alternative side to life in another land. If we were truly at war then some formalities of law can be overlooked for the safety of the overall. But this is not the case here. The story of David Hicks is the one presented by the establishment (one that will be proven corrupt by history) that was obtained under the duress of soiltary confinement and other tortures.

I could go on but you are not worth it Garpal, your lack of feeling for a fundamental fair go and non understanding of basic legal rights is a disgrace to our education system.

As long as Raaaaaaay is kept wherever they send superannuated tv jocks and DH is kept as far away from my media and doesn't get paid for his crimes, I don't really give a damn.

gg

Well I would like to see him interviewed. I'd like to hear from the man himself THEN I'll make my own judgement. I couldn't give a damn one way or another whether he gets paid or not. Remember Chopper Reid. He was a self admitted criminal and made money writing a book and appearing on telly. Hicks has paid the price of being a fool.

I'd prefer it if he was interviewed by Denton or someone like that rather than channel 9 spin doctors. I'd probably watch it either way though.

Don't see any reason to boycott it.

Yeah, let him have his say.

I would like to hear the other side of the story too.

I also won't begrudge the guy for getting something for his story. After all anyone else wrongfully imprisoned has recourse to compensation. I don't think he did the smartest thing getting involved over there, but having said that there is no law against stupidity (necessairly).

Now that is a good idea. Denton is the best I have seen for drawing out the true story. Some of the others only want to air what they want you the hear. Last week I was phoned by a radio station wanting me to do a story about my whaling days. I agreed but when they found out I was pro whaling they decided it wouldn't be good copy so no more interview.

Good Heavens, Explod, that's a bit unreasonable on a personal basis isn't it?
GG has a different view from you. He is entitled to that. It doesn't label him as an unworthy human being.

I'm not much interested in David Hicks so don't really care if anyone wants to interview him or not. I see him as a foolish person who has been more than adequately punished for his stupidity.

Julia, I merely said that I feel sorry for GG and I mean it when I say such attitudes are a disgrace to our education system.

We are supposed to be a civilised society and an absolute fair go to all untill all is revealed. The adage "innocent till proven guilty." Garpal merely reflects the attitude of growing numbers and perhaps if strong words can help bring attention to the need for improvement in this area then so be it.

David Hicks is a Son of Australia, obviously sorry and deserves a chance to start again. In my life I have noted many get off the rails but later become very valuable community assets, most often because of that bad experience. My Dad (returned serviceman) used to say. "there is no way like the hard way" and the further I go in life the more I see it is true.

We fight along side the US, who many would argue are very violent & willing to attack other sovereign nations (and have done so many times in the last century). Given any confession he gave was under duress I wouldn't be so quick to judge him, and would be very intersted to hear his side of the story.

Cory Worthington, now there is someone who should be never seen or heard of again. If you're advocating a channel 10 boycott on these grounds I'd be inclined to agree.

So true. :iagree:

Great idea, think Denton maybe a little intimidated by Hicks?
