Help! Babies Direct has gone broke?

Need some advice, we ordered a car seat from babies direct and apparently they have gone into liquidation, only just found out after chasing them for weeks for delivery of the car seat.

How do I get my $450 back, paid by credit card 15th March.

Please any help is appreciated!

Yup ringing them now.

And it looks like they were trading when insolvent, bastards.

They told us the same story as everyone else "we are moving to a new warehouse, sorry about the delay" etc

But seems other people were told they were in liquidation BEFORE we purchased our item.

If the CC co. cannot or will not stop payment, keep trying to get that baby seat!
 
Bank has said no refund.

I had a feeling they would say that ... even if it's not true ...

Go higher within the bank, lodge a complaint.
When you take it to the appropriate ombudsman,
he will ask "Did you lodge a complaint?"

I have had good outcomes with ombudsmen!

According to ASIC, babies direct went into administration on the 7th of March. Not sure how they could've accepted a payment on the 15th? I'd be contacting the administrators. Their names are on the link below.

I'm sorry to hear that, matty. Hope you have better luck than I did in a similar situation.

The chlorinator for my pool, which had a three year warranty from a long established company, died after only 13 months and when I asked for replacement was told the company had recently gone into liquidation.

I went through all the obvious follow up stuff, eg contacting the liquidator etc, and dead end.
Cost of new chlorinator around $1400. Just had to wear it.

Ok the drama! So the wife rang the bank first time and she was told no refund.

She was told to ring the administrators. which was a number that didnt even work - and they are actually not the administrators anyway.

So the "online" part of babiesdirect.com.au didnt go into administration until last week, the administrators for the online part is: http://www.corcordis.com.au/contact.html

I also rang the bank and they told me something completely different to what my wife was told. The lady on the phone told me to fill out a Visa Dispute Form and lodge it. And yeah she was pretty rude and abrupt on the phone.

So will be filling out the form the Administrators will be sending through and also the Visa Dispute Form.

All in all this is bloody frustrating.

I thought credit card purchases were covered by some sort of insurance against things like this. Visa and Mastercard anyway. Maybe it depends on the card - check your T&C's.
This happened to me early 2012 when Air Australia aka Strategic Airlines went broke and I got my money back via my credit card. Those who paid cash for flights at a travel agent got diddly squat, as broke arilines aren't covered by travel insurance apparently.

I think it depends on the actual circumstances, stewie. I was recently upset to discover three fraudulent charges on my credit card, to a total of a bit over $2000. Advised the bank as soon as I noticed and the card was cancelled, new one issued.
It took 13 days (during which I fretted about how I'd prove I hadn't incurred the charges if they challenged me on it) until the amounts were credited. They have declined to say (if they even know) where/how the charges occurred.
I guess that's a pretty different situation, however, from your having engaged in a purchase from a company which you believed to be completely functional.
 

If they have a facebook page, I'd post my experience there, as that seems to be quite effective
 
I don't have any advice for you but i am in the same position as you. We purchased a car seat from them in January only to find out in April that they are in liquidation. I am furious about it and i is looking like i will never see the money. If i find out anything i will post it here unless you have an email i could send it to or a facebook page. I got an email from the liqudiators today that said it will be unlikely if i ever get my money back.

You will not get your money back through the liquidators is my understanding. They dont have enough $ to pay out the staff most likely and the biggest "creditor" is the owner of the company who must have borrowed money from the business.. idiots.

I managed to get my money back via credit card claim, that would be your only hope.

I feel for you mate, lots of deception and not very nice feeling when you get ripped off like this, I was literally mad for weeks about it.
