1) I started out trading about $1000 per stock, but if I could go back - I would have spent far longer educating myself before I even started looking at companies. If you are paying ~$20 each way in brokerage you'd really not want to be buying parcels under ~$2k. Otherwise your transaction costs ensure that you need at least a decent movement in your direction just to get back to even....2) Not familiar with MyWealth? But CommSec is a good place to start..has basic research functions and is user friendly...My advice - keep educating yourself and don't jump in too quickly. Find a strategy (fundamental/techinal, buy&hold/swing etc etc)..look at a few styles and see what you might be suited too...
