Big meta analysis (pooling data from many past clinical studies and applying it to resolve a question) under the aegis of the Mayo Cinic and building on a similar but smaller Harvard meta analysis. As I am 99.9% vegan I have been taking algal EPA/DHA supplements that I get from iHerb but appears I have been taking maybe a quarter of what is optimal. Using flax seed daily for ALA helps we're told but conversion of the oil in flax to the longer chain Omega 3's is low. The main action of these Omega 3's is apparently to reduce inflammation of the delicate lining of the blood vessels.
