I have just been offered the opportunity to live rent free in Prague in the Czech Republic from October, November and December this year by a friend who will be there on business and I'm seriously considering it. I've been to Prague a few times before and I loved it. I've done a fair bit of travelling across the world but I've never actually lived overseas before.

It's the first time in my life I've ever been positioned to do something like this and the thought of getting to Oktoberfest in Munich, which is something I've wanted to do for years, is almost sealing the deal.

I know I can run the forums from over there. All I need is internet access.

So tell me all about your living overseas stories and whether you'd do it again. I'm very tempted right now.

I've just got my EU passport and am off myself within the next few months. With the ability to make a living online, why the hell not?

That is a perfect amount of time to live in a different country.

I lived in Holland for six months and loved every minute. Every day is a new adventure.

Also lived in PNG for two and half years and really enjoyed my time there.

Both such a contrast to life in Oz. Opens your eyes and mind.

Lived in the states for a year in 94 and I'm back over there next week to catch up with friends from over 12 years ago
I'd say go for it but if you come back with itchy feet and your not sure where you want to live or what you want to do...don't blame me ...nah just kidding...I'm sure someone once said variety is the spice of life

I've only lived in a few countries..Singapore being one...different cultures are good for the character.

I havent lived in countries but i have stayed there for a month to two months before. I have just come back from the french rivieria though for a holiday for 3weeks does that count?

Anyway I would say ,do it.It would be an excellent experience,plus being Europe you wouldn`t be confined to just one country,can I come too?no just joking : three months sounds like a long time but seeing that you have the ability to do your job via internet,presumably language wouldnt be a barrier so everything thing else should just be a learning experience.Have fun.

I'm currently living in Northern China. Aside from the deep culture shock that i've mostly overcome, and the frigid winters (-25 for 2.5 months) it has its advantages. The summer here is like Queensland. I live comfortably, and i am gradually learning the language.

A few bouts of food poisening now and again, but you get used to it.

Keep an open mind, find things to like about it.

(I've heard the women there are gorgeous)

Last time I was there I faired excellently.. til they trotted out the bock! That felled me quick smart. (they didn't tell me it is 12% alchohol LOL)

I love Bavaria, one of my favourite spots; fantastic people!

Go for it Joe. I lived in europe for two years and it was the best time of my life. Prague would be a perfect base as well because its in the center of the continent. If you haven't already take a trip over to Hungary and then down to Croatia. There's so much happening its great to visit....

Lived in Japan for 4 years. Great experience but did my head in towards the end.

Lived in the UK for a year.

By the time you start getting used to it - it'll be time to go home.

Joe living overseas is a fantastic experience. It's a great way to not only see how another society lives, but to also immerse yourself into their culture. It's given me a real appreciation of living in it's many various ways and forms and meeting some pretty amazing people...and free rent - go for it!

I've been fortunate to have lived in a few places on this planet. Got back from london a year ago after living there for 7 years(took me that long to get my head around the place). Had an amazing time there and it became my home. Was pretty hard to leave.

As you'll be heading over during winter you have to get yourself up to the Alps/mountains. A week of snowboarding/skiing greatly recommended.

You'll love the Czech Republic and Prague. Have heard it's gotten a little more expensive in the last couple of years, but still dirt cheap compared to some other parts of europe....and the women are unbelievable...just go easy on the absinthe

Such lovely people (ahem... women! And near to Poland for even more lovely women ), beautiful architecture and great beer! What more could a person want? A castle? It has one of those too!

Wouldn't mind a return trip to Munchen either...

I`m approaching the start of my fourth year here in Japan.
I study the language and get a lot out of that, regarding culture and their way of thinking. It is something I will always cherish and it has made me appreciate my beloved Australia more.

Go there man and get the most out of it. Daily boring life doing 9-5 is crap and full of losers winging trying to save a bit - how boring. Anything to make life more interesting I`m for it.

One of my favourite european cities was Prague, you gotta go; great sights, surprisingly great local beer, the amazingly friendly beautiful women (with all due respect to the czech) ,and where the untouched old city meets the new. luvdit!

Its one of those places that you can say youve experienced, and not just visited. Bon voyage mon ami. enjoy!

travelled althrough Europe

I also have an EU passport, when I replace my personal exertion income
with trading income I'm out of here...

As a single bloke I lived overseas for 6 years in the 70's in Hong Kong and found it a fantasy experience - so easy to visit neighbouring Asian countries, even just for a long weekend.

Nowadays, later in life, it's not possible to repeat the experience, too weighed down by family and financial responsibilities.

My advice - take the opportunity while you can - no point in dying wondering.
