Last week I bought a small portable radio from one of our well known discount chains.

Brought it home and went to plug it in. The points on the plug were much too thick to go into the power point. Tried repeatedly. Tried on several different power points. Absolutely no way that plug was going to go into any of my power points.

Indulged in some fairly colourful cursing about ***** foreign countries manufacturing their cheap ***** junk: and then **** cheap *** retailers having the effrontery to sell useless products etc etc. Continued for at least half an hour feeling really irritated that I was going to have to take it back to the shop for a refund.

Went back to the shop today, having worked up a fairly healthy tirade regarding "how can you sell such useless goods to an unsuspecting public, so inconvenient to have to bring it back etc etc", went to the Service Desk fully armed with all my indignation, pulled the radio and its attached cord out of the box and started on my rant.

The teenager behind the counter smiled politely and pulled the protective plastic covering from the prongs of the plug!!! He was charitable enough to say that lots of people made the same mistake. All I could do was apologise for being so stupid and slink quietly away.

I think you tend to feel more foolish the older you get . There is nothing worse than having one of your children work something out or fix some thing while you were sitting there tearing whats left of your hair out . And then to rub salt in the wound they call you POP and walk away shaking their heads

But maybe running to open the door early in the morning and you have quickly thrown on your wifes dressing gown with all the frills and lace and the door step is full of preachers . At least you don't have to ask them to leave . They just go by themsleves

Interesting how our brain sometimes gets in the way of best results.

If you were less intelligent, say a child or someone who wasn't aware of the source of all our consumer goods these days the thought that it was an adaptor made for/in another country might not have happened, and you would have looked for a simpler explanation and found it!

Nothing wrong in feeling like a fool possibly, the real fools aren't self aware I think.

I've gotta say that nothing similar has ever happened to me........yet.

Sometimes if things aren't working, take a break, go have a coffee and THINK!!

Although I have to admit I've done many many foolsih things after a few drinks.

Realist you have for quite sometime been attempting to stamp a sence of respect and credibility upon the forum so much so that initially your being rated as a junior member prompted you to add a prefix!
Fancy such a worldly Poster be known as a junior!!

Its still there and now MORE APPROPRIATE THAN EVER

Go have a coffee,stop drinking THINK and show some humility.

Funny post Julia.
My latest embarrassing moment was when I went overseas for work, I put my mobile in my case on the way back.
Couldn't find it. Had to say to the boss that it had gone missing, possibly stolen. Got a new mobile then two weeks later put on my brown shoes and couldn't put my foot properly in one of them. Cursing I removed the thing in it. It was my missing mobile. :millhouse
 
I once walked around the house for an hour looking for my mobile....thought it was a great idea to call the number & track the sound......it was clipped to my pants
 
I'm relieved to hear that I'm not totally alone in my capacity for having dumb moments. Thanks.

some posters here make a fool of themselves on a daily basis and dont even know it
 
Oh Julia that is such a scream!

I will add a couple of my own that occurred within the space of a couple of hours.

We had just flown to Bali and booked into our room. Husband made the comment that the plumbing seemed a little slow to drain. I decided I would have a shower to cool off, so used the joint shower/bath to do so. I noticed the bath was not draining well at all, so remembering partners comments, called Hotel Maintenance. They were there within a couple of minutes and worked away at the problem. When they were done, I asked them what the problem was. They showed me the bath PLUG which I had left over the drain

Then an hour or so later, I wanted to watch TV. I just couldnt get it to work even though partner had done so a few minutes earlier. Turned on/off the TV buttons, nothing! So, rang up maintenance again as I thought the remote batteries needed replacing. Same two guys arrived smiling. My luck! They walked straight to the power switch on the bedhead, turned it on, Bingo, it worked. They walked out laughing.

Next day, my kids toilet was blocked. Told son not to use it, but like all teenagers he, well, did! Oh dear. It flooded, everywhere. Wont go into details. Not nice in Bali by the way. I called up maintenance, again, and fled the room not to return for a few hours. This time it was for real, unfortunately for them

Can just see the expressions on the faces of the Bali maintenance men!

Perhaps it's a "blonde thing"?

Anyway, I hate that expression used in encounter groups etc "thanks for sharing" (so gooey) but this might be an occasion when I can reasonably use it!

thats only happened about 20 times to me.

Once i had it in my pocket and was looking for at least 30min, then i gave up and 2 hours later realised something bulgy in my back pocket. (tried ringing but no reception).

Oh the silly things we do.
