Islamic State calls on backers to kill 100 U.S. military personnel
(Reuters) - Islamic State has posted online what it says are the names, U.S. addresses and photos of 100 American military service members, and called upon its "brothers residing in America" to kill them.
The Pentagon said after the information was posted on the Internet that it was investigating the matter. "I can't confirm the validity of the information, but we are looking into it," a U.S. defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said on Saturday.
"We always encourage our personnel to exercise appropriate OPSEC (operations security) and force protection procedures," the official added.
Up to 100 bodies, many with their throats slit, have been found in a mass grave on the edge of a town in northeast Nigeria after it was freed from Boko Haram militants.
Soldiers from Chad and Niger who have liberated Damasak from the Islamist group said they discovered the bodies under a bridge on one of the main roads leading out of the town.
Chad's military spokesman Colonel Azem Bermandoa Agouna said: "There are about 100 bodies spread around under the bridge just outside the town... this is the work of Boko Haram."
A Reuters witness said they had counted at least 70 bodies.
Five arrested in anti-terror raids across Melbourne
FIVE men are in custody after police launched counter-terrorist raids across Melbourne in the early hours of this morning.
Seven search warrants and around 200 police officers were involved in the raids.
Police believe they foiled an “imminent” terrorist plot targeting officers at “Anzac events.”
At a joint Victoria Police and Australian Federal Police press conference this morning police said they believed the group were not working in conjunction with other organisations but were “Isis inspired”.
“At this stage we have no evidence that it was a planned beheading” AFP counter-terrorism chief Neil Gaughan said.
But he admitted: “this particulate matter was ISIS inspired.”
“The persons involved in this are individuals acting by themselves,” and were not representative of any religion, group or culture officers said.
Victoria Police acting Deputy Commissioner Shane Patton said the attacks could have occurred any day.
“We believe the attack could have occurred at any time within the next week,” he said.
He confirmed the men were associates of Abdul Numan Haider who was shot dead by anti-terrorist police in September but stressed that as the investigation is ongoing “the presumption of innocence is paramount.”

Bakr's documents were long hidden in a tiny addition to a house in embattled northern Syria. Reports of their existence were first made by an eyewitness who had seen them in Haji Bakr's house shortly after his death. In April 2014, a single page from the file was smuggled to Turkey, where SPIEGEL was able to examine it for the first time. It only became possible to reach Tal Rifaat to evaluate the entire set of handwritten papers in November 2014.
What Bakr put on paper, page by page, with carefully outlined boxes for individual responsibilities, was nothing less than a blueprint for a takeover. It was not a manifesto of faith, but a technically precise plan for an "Islamic Intelligence State" -- a caliphate run by an organization that resembled East Germany's notorious Stasi domestic intelligence agency.

"Garland police officers engaged the gunmen, who were both shot and killed,'' the statement posted online said.
The exhibit was placed on lockdown and attendees later moved to a nearby school.
Police suspect the suspects' vehicle may contain a bomb and called in bomb squad experts. Surrounding businesses were evacuated.

ISLAMIC State has taken responsibility for an attack outside an anti-Muslim event in Texas over the weekend, but the White House says it’s “too early” to link the terror group to the crime.
The suspected gunmen, Elton Simpson, 31, and Nadir Soofi, 34, wounded a security guard before being shot dead by police at an event showcasing cartoons mocking the Prophet Mohammed.

The announcement ended with warning: “We say to the defenders of the cross, the US, that future attacks are going to be harsher and worse. The Islamic State soldiers will inflict harm on you with the grace of God. The future is just around the corner.”
Improvised explosive devices have been found at a house in Melbourne's outer north after a high-level counter-terrorism raid on Friday afternoon.
The police bomb squad removed the devices from the Greenvale house and took them to a nearby reserve, before conducting a controlled detonation.
The explosives were found after counter-terror police conducted their second operation in two months, with a high-level search which culminated in dramatic scenes on Friday afternoon.Police would not confirm if the operation was in relation to counter-terrorism, or which suburbs were being targeted.
"Victoria Police, in conjunction with the AFP, is conducting a police operation in the northern metropolitan area this afternoon. As this relates to an ongoing investigation, it is not appropriate to comment further," a spokeswoman said.
It is understood that authorities have previously considered reducing the publicity surrounding counter-terror raids in a bid to defuse anti-Muslim sentiment.
The Hume Islamic Youth Centre, in nearby Coolaroo, had not been impacted by the operation on Friday.
The centre has previously been linked to extremism.
An ASIO spokeswoman declined to say whether the agency was involved.
"Unfortunately we are unable to provide comment as ASIO does not comment on operational matters," she said.

THE US Consulate in Melbourne has warned it’s citizens in Victoria and around the country to be on high alert, declaring a terror attack on Australian soil was “likely”.
It’s the first time this century that the consulate has issued such a warning, and said it reflected the heightened security level of the Australian government.
The alert comes in the wake of a number of terror related arrests in the state. Last month, a 17-year-old was charged on suspicion of carrying out a terror plot on Mother’s day. The police operation came just weeks after a separate incident where an 18-year-old Melbourne man was charged when police uncovered plans for an “ISIS inspired” terror attack on Anzac Day.
Due to the nature of the ongoing threat, US consulate is compelling its citizens to “maintain a high level of vigilance” and to “take appropriate steps” to enhance their personal security.
“U.S. citizens are strongly encouraged to review your personal security plan, remain aware of your surroundings including local events, and monitor local news stations for updates.” the alert says.
The warning comes as the court date has been set for a 14-year-old British boy who is facing terror charges for his involvement in the Anzac Day terror plans. The boy has been charged with two counts of inciting another to commit an act of terror. It is alleged he recruited the 18-year-old Melbourne man and had incited him to behead strangers in the name of IS.
