Why worry about a few people on boats arriving from Asia when there is already 1/2 million refugees from NZ here stealing our jobs, our husbands, wifes and spouses, cluttering our roads, maternity wards, dole offices and beaches. 10% of the total NZ population live here. As most are single men it is a huge % of their working population. There is so much of our precious $AUD going back to the nth & sth island that there are calls for a single currency. Every year the Bledisloe cup is stolen yet we keep letting more in. Send them all back home and just watch the NZ currency collapse. It is just like the yanks in ww2 - overpaid, oversexed and over here.
 
What are they taking refuge from over there?

I hear the sheep are quite scary.
 
Sunder, from what I read in reputable magazines and newspapers it is more that the poor sheep live in fear and there are not enough sheep to go around.
 

My father just went back home recently. He mentioned the amount of Chinese immigrants flooding in was astounding. Is there an easier loophole for immigrants to get in through NZ? I think they have to live there for so long though?

I'm one of those kiwis that is guilty of some of the above
We don't mind those sheep jokes; we know it’s just your insecurities coming out over how much more awesome we are (not at rooting sheep either)
 
Is it really that great of a problem? Our population is quite low, and our birth rate is only 1.7/1.8 which is below replacement, without net migration, we'd have a shrinking population..
 
Doesn't worry me.
It's family.
New Zealand is our little brother.
 
There are plenty of Aussies that bought NZ properties and take the rent & capital gains out of the NZ economy to compensate.

What worries me is the volume of Asians, in particular Chinese that are moving here.

Some suburbs are completely taken over by them to the exclusion of Anglo Aussies.

Rudd speaks Chinese and I can see the day when we may be the subject of a takeover of sorts.

The other worry is Muslims, I'm not concerned with the majority of them but the extremists come with them and that is a huge concern , in Britain, France and Europe generally.

We have 200m Muslims in Indonesia just a short swim from us, that concerns me.

I'm sure our army of a few hundred k would be able to prevent any invasion from them considering how under equipped they would be.

This is why our alliance with Uncle Sam is so imprrtant

Actually, it was Robert Muldoon that made that statement.

Also, as for Zird's naive post - Studies have shown that Australia does very well out of NZ Immigrants. Most are educated in NZ, at no cost to Aus, and have jobs. The idea of NZ'ers being dole bludgers doesn't hold up to scrutiny.

Think Zird is taking the piss while Mr Burns could do with some Indo immersion. They are lovely people and detest the extremeists as much as we do. The more immigration the better and let's keep boat people in perspective - been to Europe lately to see how many refugees those countries process? What about US and the Mexicans.

I'm more worried about how neurotic our society is becoming as regards political correctness, regulations, anti smoking, anti drinking, RTA and police powers, intolerance for sportsmen who like to drink, intolerance for many things.

We're a country of refugees, keep us real and give us more refugees

yes Donga, plenty more room here for all sorts and the boats should be accepted no worries

the authorities no the numbers who dont leave the country, gets no press

its great to sit in my capital city and see the contribution and the spring in the step of these people
