Grounded Coal ship

No it sinks - black coal has an SG/density of around 1.3.

Depends if the S/G density of the salt water is greater than 1.3 I spose. AND if the coal has a lot of pyrites (fools gold) in it ? But we are bordering on the ridiculous now as we all know that Rudd has flown over the disaster zone and declared it a "very, very serious situation" that he will be able to turn water into wine and ........ No wait ... that was the other guy !

it very well may have been "the other guy" but the major question for australian mum & dad working families going forward is? will we vote for the saviour regardless of whatever happens? I somehow doubt that St Kevin has any answer for this one, just lots of hand wringing and serious talk of punishments later, but of course nothing that might upset the Chinese, or the language clases will all have been for nothing.

You would have to be very careless indeed to hit Douglas Shoal. There is plenty of room through that passage. Perhaps the crew were on the Bundy. Al least a coal reef will be different, and in time will probably be a tourist attraction.

You can see the shoal on Google Maps at:

There have now been four politicians who have individually flown over the grounded ship: Rudd, Rachel Nolan, Peter Garrett, and now Anna Bligh.
Presumably they all chartered their individual aircraft, or used the government plane.
Why couldn't they have saved some money by all going together, or at least the two Feds together, ditto the two Qld people!

Anyway, I expect that now the ship has duly been viewed by these Important People, everything will all be just okey dokey.

Julia Why would they start saving on expenditure now?
Hell a couple joy flights is nothing in comparison to all their other stuff up fix its.
Is it correct now that the installation stuff ups are now receiving a $1000 rebate? And in NSW today wasn't there another fatallity in regard with bad installation. Not much thought comes into any of the Rudd government planning. Name one thing that hasn't back fired and costed us dearly?

Put those 4 together in a plane and you might tempt someone to loosen a wheel or two before take off lol

You're quite right, of course. I'd have thought I'd be immune to the ongoing wasting of taxpayer dollars by now, but for some reason, these joyrides just got to me.

Yes, a mother and a 3 year old died in a house fire where there was foil insulation.
I'm trying hard to think of something the Rudd government has done that has worked out well. (Fans would say they saved us from recession by borrowing to give the punters the $900 cheques. It will only be when essential services are cut that these same punters realise they are paying dearly for their little spend-ups.)

Ah, I have one thing: the government guarantee to the electorate that their savings in banks would be guaranteed for two years, from the start of the GFC.
The fact that, with the regulation and stability of our banks, this was quite unnecessary, should be dismissed as irrelevant.
It made a lot of people feel better.

What an unkind suggestion.
