Government "wood duck" award

With the spate of quite unusual Government decisions, projects mishaps and bizarre policy outcomes.
I was wondering if we shouldn't have a "wood duck award" where all members can nominate a decision or event that happened during the calender year.
Then members can vote on which they feel is the biggest stuff up and it gets the Wood Duck award for that year.
It would be fun in years to come to see what Government blunders happened, no matter which party is in office.
Obviously the site moderator would have to give his blessing, but it might be fun.

Ha ha! My father and I call Julia "Duck bum" because of the way she waddles with her bum sticking out.

There are so many instances that it's difficult to choose.

I'd say forming any sort of alliance with The Greens whom I regard as by far the most dangerous political force ever.

Well having researched a little there appears to be a number of candidates. Some actual species of ducks that have 'in deed' turned wooden.

There is the Ruddy Duck apparently a 'diving duck' often found diving in popularity pools. Gets quite agitated in flight if it cannot find its required food will quack very angrily at hostess birds. Also known to perform the same for lack of preening bush. Has flown the coop (reluctantly).

Then there is the Redhead duck not to be confused with the Bufflehead, albeit it is difficult for the general public to distinguish between the two. The Redhead is also a diving duck. It has dived so deep in the popularity pools that it is clearly stuck in mud and has become a Lame duck. Known to to attempt to drive off other migratory birds particularly the Eurasian Wigeon to its nest with no effect, and for all its quacking has only bought more from Malaysia.

Then there is the Trumpeter Swan this one has stolen the golden eggs from the Golden goose and killed it and looks set to prey heavily on the Shoveler ducks in the Western and Northern mineralised regions. It thinks itself a beautiful species but it, in reality, remains an ugly duckling.

While not strickly a duck there is the mocking brown bird, a nest invader. As it cannot build its own it has been adopted by Lame ducks into their nesting area, and cleverely made them mock his own bleating quacks. Previously found lurking around very green swamps.

And as known by most people who have had ducks - they put **** everywhere.

Well the only one I can add is the "Quacker Duck".
Its a species that habitates the forrest in Canberra. It has no alliance to any particular policy, and will literally feed off anything..
Its main feature is it lacks directional sense and pretty much will stay in that area.
Funny thing is that the numbers are increasing, which is interesting because they do not migrate.

Nothing better to do so i thought I would add a little...

Like the collective term for pelicans is a 'parliament' so too is the collective term for Wood Ducks. Commonly a Parliament of Wood Ducks can best be found flocked in Canberra near the shores of lake Burley Griffin, where the Wood Ducks roost, for weeks on end produce very little, and what is laid are usually rotten eggs, but they do produce enormous amounts of manure. Enormous amounts I assure you.

The 'bird watchers' collect here feverishly writing articles in daily journals called newspapers, become highly energised when some extraordinary bouts of hooting and honking is displayed by the wood ducks beyond the general din and rabble. Some Wood Ducks make some very ridiculous hooting displays that is captured in short documentaries broadcast on TV.
All to which the general public have no real idea of what outcome the whole ritual means and wonder what in the duck is is going on!

The parliament of Wood Ducks is highly organised, sitting on opposite sides of the coop, seemingly having some pecking order, the noisiest and most annoying are on the lower front perches and screech, hoot, honk and squawk incessantly. On the back perches there are often dozing dribbling quacked up old ducks and lame ducks perched glum and moronically quack in unison to the lower perched Wood Ducks. Occasionally a real duckwit will cause a right royal hoot usually has a big bill that it cannot account for or putting its eggs in the someone elses basket or flocking with something they shouldnt. Shame on you Duckwit!

The de-voted-mated public are allowed one open season, just one Saturday usually every 4 years, but the disgruntled de-votee are only allowed one shot in this open season. It does its best to cull the numbers, but as sure as **** stinks, the Wood Ducks return to flock to their pestilent numbers having ducked for cover for the months leading up to the open season. And as one de-votee said to the other - "lets get the flock out of here", so too will I.

Not sure if you can list 35-50 options in a poll, there would have to be that many stuff ups wouldnt there?

I would suggest running a weekly poll, that should keep it down to 4 or 5 new stuff up items each week.

Set top box would be in at the local school - probalbly in the new sports equipment storage room they just built last year, you know the one, its about 8m x 8m big, cost $2.5 million to build?

Wood Duck awards are usually awarded for admirable services, however if you want to extend it to objectionable or stupid decisions, I don't thing the Coalition should be excluded. I have the feeling that Abbott is about to s**t in his own nest, and if he does he will get my nomination.
