When applying for a prop trader job with an Aussie prop trading firm do they ask if the applicant has ever been convicted of a crime on some sort of a job application form, or in the job interview? i went to prison for nine months 21 years ago when i was very young, but i have not broken the law over the past 20 years, so my crime was a very very long time ago, when i was young. will this prison sentence stop me from getting a job at a prop firm? will the prop firm ask if i have ever committed a crime in the past? hoping someone that has gained a job at an Australian prop trading firm may know the answer to this question? thank you for any help in advance, much appreciated.

Hi Trembling Hand, thanks heaps for your reply, really appreciate it. Can someone else on this forum who has worked for an aussie prop firm in the past confirm this? just want to make 100% sure that they don't ask this info, so I can then prepare a strategy in advance, in order to get a prop trading job. Just to add I've worked for two in Oz and they didn't ask it.
Ok so they don't ask this info, as it's personal and sensitive. Would you think that the prop firm would do a police check anyhow? as no one would know that they have done this police check. maybe someone on the inside may know the answer to this question? thanks again, really appreciate it.

From what I've seen, most of the banks/props do background checks before the interview stage. If you don't pass you wont get an interview so no love lost there.
If they do ask you best be truthful about it as they'll get to the bottom regardless.

If you have a great CV and interview well (and good references), I'm sure you'll find someone willing to give you a go and overlook your past. Offer to start on a probationary or short-term contract basis perhaps.

Their is no employment when trading prop. So probationary or short-term is not up for consideration.
