Im surprised this hasn't been thrown up as a topic for discussion...

This is Gaddafi's attempt to come in from the cold.

1. Pressures for release of and then publically embraces a convicted terrorist
2. Pitches a tent to sleep in in the middle of New York city.
3. Moans about jet lag and waking up at crack of dawn to get ready for a UN speech. He then address the dips directly, "All of you are asleep! All of you are tired! Why all this tiredness?"
4. Speech goes for 94 minutes rather than his 15 minutes entitlement
5. Rips up a UN rule book
6. Accusses the Security Council of being like a terrorist organisation
7. Calls for $7.7 trillion in compensation for Africa for the horrors of colonialism.
8. Brings up the old chestnut - who killed JFK?
9. Suggested that swine flu was created in a military labratory.
10. Said that UN delegates were no better than the speakers at Hyde Park corner

Geeessshh, talk about how to win friends and influence people.

Some Times journalist is making excuses for this ludicrous behaviour saying, "Although the speech might sound strange or maybe slightly disjointed to a Western audience, it might not seem that way if you are sitting in Africa or the Middle East." ... but he does not qualify that at all.

What shocks me is how these people can get into power when you look at Gaddaffy. Mug Arbie , Dinnerjacket et al how stupid are their followers, I realise they are d!cktators and they know how to control and use their powers.
I am sure they have a different DNA make up to Western people and therefore we will never win against them.

I don't think we're allowed to use the term 'senile' any more, but if we were, that's what could rightfully be said about Gaddafi. His relatively few original brain cells have now been eroded by old age.

Surely they should have some system of ringing a bell when the allotted 15 minutes is almost up, and this should be enforced.

Actually, I was pretty happy about his crappy performance because it satisfactorily almost emptied the Chamber, giving our esteemed Prime Minister an undoubtedly very disappointingly small audience for what he no doubt considered one of his greatest speeches. Tough, Kev.:D

Julia the word "senile" is an adjective that describes the state of a medically recoqnised condition. Who said we cannot use it anymore?

I stand to be corrected but didn't the U.S. install the first 2 and possibly the 3rd as leaders?

Lets find a safe place for Gadaffi in New York to pitch his tent

Any suggestions ?

KK

When I lived in New York, which was for nearly six months, the accepted rule if you valued your personal safety, was never to go above 100th Street. The higher the street number - you were getting close to Harlem, the bro's and the hood.

I'd suggest he erect his tent up around 120th street - I'm sure the New York mayor would probably help arrange this!

cheers

The others are Rudd staffers and delegates who fell asleep earlier.

A free copy of Kevins greatest essays to whoever can spot a delegate who's awake;)

Snake, I don't think I said you can't use it any more. It's simply a term that was used prior to the increased understanding that we now have that this condition is what we presently call dementia, and in particular Alzheimer's as a sub-set and the most common form of dementia.

The word 'senile' had fallen into quasi colloquial use in often inappropriate contexts. e.g. if someone not at all likely to be suffering from a dementia forgot where they had put their keys, it was very common for them to say jokingly "I must be getting senile".

Does that answer your question?

Thanks for your response Julia. Your original remark didn't read that way and I thought you may have gone up the PC alley.

Yes it is an older term but still with relevance. Thanks again.:)
