I wanted to thank everyone that has competed in the 2024 CY Competition and the effort you all have put into your Company updates.
I know there was extra work for you all to do to remain in the Comp and I really do appreciate that effort.

I was hoping it would help lift ASF with more posts and at the same time hope that the viewers of the threads follow the journey of your tips throughout the year and seen how you ended up.
I also thought it might make us a little more engaged with the Comp throughout the year. So once again thank you all.

A big THANK YOU to our sponsor @Sean K for supporting us and backing the Comp with the prize money, a very kind gesture indeed. It certainly makes the Comp more interesting.

*** I also wanted let you all know I will not have the time to establish, organize and run next year's Competition.
I have been missing in action quite a bit this year at times, especially the last 6 weeks and unfortunately, I can't see that turning around in a hurry. It has not been a good year for the family.

I will continue with the updates this year and I'm glad I had the Comp to distract me at times. Thank you to all that have supported the Comp, posted posts and read the thread, much appreciated.
 

Thank you DF for taking over the admin of this comp. I think there has been more posting in the stock threads due to our 'encouragement' to be eligible for a prize, but I'm not absolutely sure. If it's actually been of benefit for ASF I'll sponsor it again.
 
Apart from the top few the rest of us would appear to be also rans. I guess there is always next year. Sadly, I just read that masterful @debtfree is not going to be able to continue. A great pity, but all the best to you Sire in the coming New Year.

I hope the guests were happy and did not miss the opportunity to become members of ASF if not already.
 
End of Week 3 update for December so far in the 2024 CY Competition.
Just need @Logique2 to update to activate Dec to include his portfolio in it's rightful position. As I've said before, I do hope he is OK and just on a break.

At the moment:
1st: @UMike .........up 168.50% ...... MSB still charging ahead, up 680% so far this year. I think he's home and hosed!
2nd: @access ...... up 63.12% ....... has added 14.38% this month and has secured 2nd place which looks very safe. OCC up 53.09% this month so far.
Some have lost a few percentage this month so far so there is a change of the 3rd spot.
3rd: @rcm617 .. up 30.21% ...... dropped a little profit this month but was able to hang on and grab 3rd place.

Best movers so far this month: @access up 14.38% ....... @Als2own up 6.32%
Best Stock % move so far this month: OCC up 53%
Worst Stock % move so far this month: 29M down 34%

If this was a 8 month rather than 12 month comp, then I'd be dusting off my well visited "2nd is more than honourable" speech ...at end Aug - post #556 - my entries had snagged a 40 percent rise, there were periods when all 4 were in the green, then things fell apart; at the same time some entries from others really started firing.
Now I have to accept a spot in the "honourable 2nd column"


... DUG lost its lustre

EGL.... bad half yearly

.IPG ... bad half yearly

... LGI , the only one to have held early gains

Like many, I feel dudded in my yearly performance. In my case, by a very disappointing 29M.

Have an enjoyable and festive holiday period. You've more than earned it.
 
Cheers @debtfree for all the updates and doing the hard yards running the comp. Fantastic job keeping everyone up to date with their posts and the insightful introductions each month. Merry Christmas to all and remember it’s not over till the end of the year. Call me optimistic but still hopeful for a 1st column finish. Some holiday humour
 
as long as you win it without having 4 red finishes ( that would mean we all tipped a BAD year )

What an amazing competition this has turned out to be - many thanks to @debtfree for organising and keeping everything running so smoothly, and a big thank you to our gracious sponsor @Sean K for putting up his own hard-earned. All of the best to everyone for an absolutely fantastic festive season and a prosperous 2025 where we can all make a massive difference to the health and well-being of ourselves, each other, all of those that we care about, and society as a whole.
 
sadly, no-one has initiated 2025 competition..... which is a shame
.... 12 months is a long time, but it needs rules and updates. I'm not a data drop and sp r e ad sheet guy, unlike @debtfree .

Yearly competitions take a lot of volunteer work to manage. It's also difficult to maintain enthusiasm for something when you meet a lot of resistance over rules. I think everyone involved just needs a break. I'm not ruling out a competition for 2026 and I'm also not against someone else organising a competition along similar lines. There's just not going to be anything official in 2025 other than the monthly competitions which will continue as usual.

Many thanks to @Sean K and @debtfree for their efforts in managing the 2024 competition.

or did you set such a fine example that few are willing to try and equal ( or better ) it ?

picking 4 winning stocks over the year is not as easy as it looks

( it looks like nobody will finish the year with 4 stocks that rose , and more interesting is some of those stocks that will finish down more than 10% , some big names in that lot )
 
a silly ( or tricky ) question for the 2025 comp.

how do we handle stock-splits ( say 1 into 10 ) and share consolidations ( say 10 into 1 ) in the year long comp. ?

could be one of those years when less usual changes occur
