Hi Folks,

Thought it might be useful to have a thread to discuss Freeware, either to recommend or find something suitable for various purposes.

I am a relative newbie to Freeware, but have tried quite a lot recently, due to various dissatisfactions with Microsoft products.

The most recent is a replacement for the clunky "File Search" capability in Vista, which despite my numbskull efforts, still fails to search to my satisfaction.

The below Search program has a very easy Interface, and quickly finds huge number of files that Vista Search did not locate + other features.

despite its name, it works perfectly with Vista Home Premium

I found it via a forum discussion re peeps annoyance with Vista search,
whilst in the process of finding a better way to use search...everyone reported much pleased with this free product...there is a premium paid version as well

There is a subtle distinction between freeware and open source.

Sourceforge is primarily open source programs, of which the majority happen to be free of charge.

I got annoyed with Nero a long time ago, and its quite dear - so using Devede instead.

A large majority of the Sourceforge material is free software. Freeware. I'm guessing the distintion is more about Freeware is less likely to be open source. Too bad the GPL freaks have hijacked the meaning most think open source means.
