Free Charting Software and Data

Hi guys,

Just a quick one - I was after some free trading software that will allow me to draw graphs etc. Im still a newbie, and dont want to pay for anything - just something to play around with.

There are free charting packages around (eg. Fcharts and Incredible Charts) but I don't know any specifically for mac (this doesn't mean there isn't any of course).

you can download Metatrader 4 demo with Alpari and you can play around with the charts (forex) as much as you want. plenty of crazy indicators out there if that interests you too.

I have 3 free charting programs - Hubb Investor, Incredible Charts and Pro Charts Egoli. I usually only use the first two, but for different things.

However, I have since noticed that all three of these programs show inconsistencies with the opening, high, low and closing prices. When I select a stock two programs will show the same numbers, but when I select a different stock, a different two will agree. I assume this has something to do with the pre-open and after market close, but I'm not sure how this would make different programs agree at different times. Any ideas?

pro charts pisses me off. It would be very good if they just took 1 second to put a horizontal line drawing tool on there and actually display price on the right axis when you move your crosshair tool.

But then again hubb pisses me off to lol by not saving your lines on your charts automatically. Instead you have to save each individual chart.

If only someone could actually make something good with all basic features

Try out the trial version of Amibroker
The full version is not free, but for the features it offers and the amount of support at that price is a bargain.

google "prorealtime"... its what I use for EOD, great in built scans aswell

I stumbled across this program on the amibroker fan forum, its a charting program with a few preset mechanical systems that can be run from a USB stick and it uses Yahoo data.

It maybe of interest to some, for ASX tickers use .AX after ticker.

i.e. CBA.AX

I've been using a program called Hubb investor (ww.hubb.com) which i think is definitely enough for beginners and especially paper trading. It has free data which is heavily delayed but is fine for end of day traders. and you could moniter stocks using yahoo or google finance if u need to.

Very easy to install and use, i cant fault a thing about it cause its free.

You can chart in bar, candlestick, point n figure. There are several indicators including moving averages, bollinger bands etc. and u can also put moving average on the volume chart too which i find very useful. Has a few drawing tools, lines and text on ur charts and save them.

It even has a portfolio manager to paper trade with

to all people using procharts egoli... do any of you know how to set up a watch list? I have a feeling this feature is only available if you wana pay for the full version?

Can you type it up in word & save it - then copy paste into the relevant part? U can do this with amibroker.

thats a good idea and you can probably set it up but I just use pro real time as it is a whole lot easier

Try incredible charts from incredible charts (google incredible charts) The data is delayed by one day but I believe it is quite good for beginner like me.

Go for ProRealTime (Just google it). I used to use Incredible Charts, however I believe that ProRealTime is far superior. Great for EOD trading. I also like how it runs as a Java applet from the web, so I can use it where ever I am, home or work.
