Confession time - I have been a stock market forum "lurker" since the days of Stock Central (loved the macho fights) and have witnessed the rise and fall of a number of forums over those years and the disappearance of a number of valuable contributors.

At the moment this forum appears to be the most vibrant of those I visit and I'm pondering why these changes? Any thoughts?

PS I'm a lurker rather than anything else, because of the respect/awe I have for the insight that I have received from various contributors on these formus.

The moderators run a pretty tight ship! :rocketwho

I think that after I joined in Oct 04, the member numbers have increased dramatically. Not sure if that had anything to do with it, but the correlation is there.

Stop lurking and get involved! We aren't all geniuses on here!

Impossible ask I say, and pity we let/made him go.

He ran his pole over the long weekend though. I for one did not look at the forum during that period and i dare say others wouldn't have. I think we should do a new pole now that less people are on holiday. I am sure the votes in his favour would be massive.

From what I saw no-one made him leave.

He chose to take his bat 'n ball and stormed off.

I got the impression that he was upset that only a tiny minority appeared to take his poll seriously.

I like many others posted we thought his poll was childish and immature and so we didn't waste time voting over 2 squabbling kids (he and moneytree).

The way I see it he and money tree are just as free to come and go as they like just like you and I and everyone else.

Profitseeker: He didn't run his pole on a long weekend. If you go look at his post when he created his pole you'll see it was on a Friday before a normal weekend.

Money tree then responded by starting a poll of his own oh dear

If anyone jumps on you to try to give you a hard time, just ignore them as their bark is always much larger than their bite

Lets get this straight.

When you get this sort of rubbish)Above) after youve posted 1800 posts from someone who at the time had posted 30---why bother.
(Seems the thrower of stones in glass houses is as childish as the rest of me with postings on the abortion issue and ASF's "Julia")---so why bother--Julia?

Every time I posted on matter where I was in the position to use real life examples from my own experience I was branded egotistical having a personal veiw evidently that "I'm the greatest trader thats ever lived"
Sure I have success I make no apologies for that--(Ive worked damned hard to get here--2 near bankruptcies--a marriage or 2 and more experiances than most will have in 2 lifetimes--hell lifes fantastic!!)-- In trading,Business and Property including developement and Systems design,success evidently is seen as self serving at ASF and the genuine desire of people to GIVE AWAY experience hooded as Egotistical chest beating----so why bother.

From what I now see Aussi Stock forums has denegrated to a general chat room.The majority of posts that Ive seen over the last month have little to do with trading.---so why bother.

There are very few here who are serious about finding out how to trade profitably or secure their future financially many are theorists and hypothisisers,even when presented with the golden egg they want to argue about this theory or that.(I'm not talking about my posts here Ive seen other clearly profitable traders/Investors have absolute gems glossed over).---so why bother---I'm not alone many dont (Profitable experienced people)---on this and most forums--why would you?.

I have little time for Financial planners particularly those who are only holders of a proper authority like the likes of Moneytree,Ive never hidden that fact,they are nothing more than finance company salesmen in my veiw.
Tree has had the perfect vehical to demonstrate his trade yet even without me here to pull him up ----Nothing----No way will I ever sit back and digest rubbish without a whimper---people should be shown the other side,seems ASF members see this as childish squabbling---so why bother.

Tech,

The majority here have enjoyed and benefited from your postings. But you've chosen to pigeon-holed the entire forum because of (initially) an argument with one person. I don't think that's very fair.

You have had many compliments from the folks here, many more than the detractors, yet you choose to concentrate on the few with whom you have an issue. That's your choice, but condemning us all as tossers won't win you any friends.

It leaves me wondering why anybody here would want to defend you.

As I said when ever I post this rubbish appears so again---why bother.

Wayne you should know better your post is nothing but inflamatory of X 000 members only 50 odd post regularly---tell me then where is the in accuracy in the above post????


I actually tell many home truths and it ruffles feathers.
Sure there are many here who can turn a profitable trade but very very few who actually turn consistent longterm worthwhile profit.
Most are undercapitalised.
Most have plans but no idea wether the plan is or ever will be profitable longterm.
Many find out the hard way.
Many are so confused they have trading paralysis.
Many will NEVER have the fortitude to take quantified risk---let alone understand it.


There are very few here who are serious about finding out how to trade profitably or secure their future financially many are theorists and hypothisisers,even when presented with the golden egg they want to argue about this theory or that.(I'm not talking about my posts here Ive seen other clearly profitable traders/Investors have absolute gems glossed over).---so why bother---I'm not alone many dont (Profitable experienced people)---on this and most forums--why would you?.

99% of people want conformists they dont want the truth shoved in their face---its to painful.
Conformity breads mediocrity and mediocrity scares the hell out of me.


I have absolutely no intention of returning to this forum these posts are only for the purpose of explaining WHY I cant be bothered putting up with petty rubbish from the few---setting the record straight other than having the un informed taking it upon themselves to speak for me----it wears you down--and Id rather give freely help to those who genuinely track it down--they want it.

This thread started off as a compliment to this forum. It is a shame personalities become involved, but a further shame when someone wants to bag something that someone (Joe) has spent a great deal of effort, time and money to develop.

Sorry, I'm defending Joe and the majority of good folk here, against your aspersions.

A quick count of the topics posted in for the month of February

Trading/investing/economics related .......................154 topics
Non trading related (including forum admin related) ....38 topics

A quick back of the envelope calc reveals non trading topics to be ~20% of all topics.

However, I note one of the forums is titled "General Chat". And Lo! This happens to be the very forum you and I are contributing to right now.

FACT?????? Bold type does not make fact I'm afraid.

Silly me - thought that was what 'general chat' meant! If you arent interested don't click!

It also made an interesting diversion from what was otherwise some grim trading days.

And you are also doing what you decry others doing!

Well, Emma, I guess you could be forgiven for having second thoughts about ASF?

Tech, you've given me considerable help which you know I really appreciate.
My suggestion is that if there is less in the way of stimulating stock comment on the forum these days, then that is quite possibly because you are no longer here with questions to spark thought and interest.

Simple solution would possibly be to ignore the irritations and respond to all those who have let you know in no uncertain terms that they have valued your help and interest.

I agree with Prospector: if I've had my head down with tax etc I find it refreshing and interesting to be able to think about something quite different.
The General Chat forum allows all of us with widely varying background, ages and interests to share opinions and thus, hopefully develop a more empathic understanding of one another's points of view.

You actually have returned to the forum (or perhaps you actually never went away).
Instead of wearing yourself down with this ridulous us vs you rant, why dont you get on and post some stuff that is useful to share traders (ie not in the general chat section).
I personally would like a bit more stockmarket technical insight rather than read the latest update on peoples musical preferences.
If you've gone, then stay gone.
If your still around (and it would appear you are) - post something good.

Speaking from my own experience on forums I know how Tech/A feels, it is disheartening to post when others mistake confidence as egotistical, one has to be confident in this game and part of posting is to share hard earnt knowledge with others, a natural giving and taking process that benifits each other.

It is also tiring to explain one self from these accusations and takes the fun out of posting, when I look back I think these people should be taken like a grain of salt but I find it hard to ignore someone that is trying to discredit one personally or any threads or posts that have methods that over the long run prove to be effective, this is different from offering a view or opinion.

I've found that many of these types of accusations and also subtle nuances are born from ignorance, or lack of understanding, or a personal agenda. The flip side of this is it can help to build even more confidence and a stronger acceptance of ourselves and others once we get past the initial feelings being provoked, something that may have not been there previously.

I have contemplated leaving forums many times, and in my early days of posting I was overly enthusiastic and very dissapointed by the lack of replies to my posts on charting, nowadays I am happy about my posts being left alone after having first hand experience in the types of replies that some people are capable of, I know there are people who are benifiting by reading them and at times a satisfying outcome is experienced, because of this and other reasons I have decided to continue to post though I have not done as many posts as Tech/A. There are two ways of thinking in my head at the moment and that is why bother with forums when in my life I practice discretion in who I associate with and if I came across people who behave like they at times do on a forum I wouldn't have a bar to do with them.

The other type of thinking is why let a few spoil it for oneself and others when there are obvious benifits to be had by participating in a forum and that is also what I'm reading on what people are writing about Tech/A, he seems to have a stream of appreciative viewers. So far the prior has worked well for me but the later seems to be something new and different and challenging. A dilemma I must admit and one that only time and experience will tell it's outcome.

Maybe it's a natural cycle for forums to be like this some come and some go, and some stay. Bullies take over, less aggressive members leave, forum leader steps in to bring back equilibrium. I wonder.
