Leading US food groups such as Hershey, Mars, and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts have warned the Obama administration that the country could "run out of sugar" and jobs could be lost unless curbs on imports are relaxed.

US food groups claim shortages could lead to higher prices for consumers.
The food producers, which also include Kraft and General Mills, gave the warning in a letter to the Obama administration. They claim that unless import quotas are increased there could be a severe shortage of sugar used in chocolate bars, breakfast cereal, cookies, chewing gum and thousands of other products.

Obesity doesn't come from sugar alone, but it could be nice trigger to change diet a bit.

In Cuba with oil embargo obesity dropped dramatically as people there simply had to walk more.
 
America running out of sugar? Surely you don't mean they'll have to eat something healty for a change? Surely not...
 
No crap.

Look at the impact of the floods in North Queensland last summer and the recent impact of drought on India. The sugar price has hit a multi-decade high on the back of this. Supply-demand equation should be kept in mind without sounding too bullish! But do see in excess of US 30cents a lb in the near future!

No, actually it wont do that.

Jim Rogers has been talking about the sugar price months and months ago.

Just don't expect to get a latte and/or croissant for the price today
months from now.

Brunch may be a mongrelized hybrid of US English.

Expect a hike and pay. Especially if you want to be catered to!
