Flies

I am sitting outside with my laptop at a mine south of Geraldton, and no exageration there's gotta be about a thousand flies buzzing around me. Gotta drink my beer down quick or they just go straight into the can lid.

Is it just W.A or do you eastern staters have heaps of flies this time of year also?.

Freeball, I read that Dampier's logbook records that when he arrived in Aust ( about 70 years prior to Cook I think from memory) - up near Karratha I think - that he complained about the flies as well lol. Some things never change. - except that WA gets richer daily and the rest of us do the dead cat bounce

PS I'll have to check if Cook also compained about the flies on the east coast!

Its COLD in Sydney at the moment, the last 3 days have been FREEZING. I'm sticking to shorts and t-shirt though as I do all year round. Oh yeah, and there's no flies (yet).

A few years ago round about Nov we took my sisiter in law from NZ to Lancelin for a few days. The easterly was blowing all the eastern state flies straight over to WA. Could not go outside at all at the risk of being mistaken for road kill.

Qld East coast where I am, never a fly problem.

Spending time in Perth some years ago I was quite unprepared for the swarms of flies in the beach areas. Horrible.

But in Qld there are heaps of other nasties - mosquitoes in particular.

Having lived most of my life in NZ, it has taken me a while to get used to all the unpleasant insects here.

I'm in the northern suburbs of Adelaide this morning and the flies are awful. They love the dry weather....

Getting attacked by them again today!, can't wait to get back home on Tuesday.

If anyone ever passes through this little mining town called Eneabba, they have got to stop off at the Shell Roadhouse.
The customer service is so bad they basically tell you to get stuffed, can't be bothered making any hot food and mait you wait 10 minutes to pay for youre fuel.
I think it even cracked a mention on the John Laws radio show for how ****ty the service is, problem is their is no wear else to go in town so youre stuck with it!.

Hey Freefall!, you tell us to go there , then you tell us the reason is that the service is so bad?? lol.

By those rules I could recommend this place down the road !! - Dont miss it!! - last time I went there I got seafood poisoning !!! lol

As for WA - further north (Point Sampson I think?) not too far from Karratha anyway - there's a fish restaurant called "Moby's" - great food, fish practically straight out of the sea. BUT - MAKE SURE YOU SIT UNDER A CEILING FAN - and turn it on full power!! - bludy flies carry you and the meal away otherwise. Ceiling fans are great though.

Karratha is a great town (to visit lol) - check into a motel, you get a ticket, then you go for a walk around town - pubs, restaurants etc - they all just "put it on your tab" - and you pay next day at the motel ! Probably not a bad town to live too, if you were making the money they were makin.

PS not sure why they call it Moby's - maybe he used to have a band? M's Dixiland band ?
BTW I've heard John Laws tell people to get stuffed as well lol - I mean he can be as arrogant as anyone surely? - not sure I'd take him as a fair judge on this one lol.
PS - If you're travelling over there, sounds like you've "seen the back of Bourke" question is "has WA seen the back of Burke"?

Hey F/B, Could be a business opportunity there ........... You could open up a mobile "Fly Repellent" business ..........Mortein might be interested in supplying you .............. I bet flyswatters are in short supply over there as well??
