From an investors perspective, does it really matter?
Tesla made huge loses for years, did it pay off? That's what the investor had to decide.
By the way I didn't buy Tesla.
Will H2 work out, who knows, but it is probably the only clean fuel available that is as flexible as oil/gas.
Am I willing to take a punt, I wouldn't put the house on it, but i'll have one each way.

It probably matters to FMG investors, and not just us mug punters but the institutions and union super funds.

So far, this looks like money being flushed.

If they were developing a Flux Capacitor, I might think they'd have a prospective product.

I obviously like taking a punt, but this is more than a roll of the dice, thus far.

Have they made a FID on anything that is now making cash?

So are you an FMG investor who has trouble with the FFI off shoot.
Or are you someone that is interested in FMG, but dont want to buy, because of the FFI overhang?
Or are you just someone that doesnt have skin in the game, but wants to give an opinion?

So is Musk.
It isnt a precise science, it is a combinition of intuition, tolerance to risk, reading the narrative and riding a wave.
Will he pull it off? That is where the punters have to make their decisions and that's where the winners and losers are sorted.

The only issue I have with your reading is that you seem to imply he is sincere in the greening of his business.
Musk does not really tout Tesla as saving the planet..he knows better..so riding the narrative and cashing up subsidies.
I also believe it is the same here.wise investor, in control...as Musk...and riding the narrative to get kudo points and allow main business to carry on..as usual ..
we can not blame him.keeping the green company private also allowing more privacy and disconnection between facts and media releases.
Is this bad..not for FMG ,and maybe even not for the shareholders but yes for Australia as a whole, ensuring people still believe that eating beef is destroying the planet and CO2 is the cause of any storm,frost or heatwaves with all the manipulations attached resulting in one of the highest electricity price on earth and the highest gas price on earth..while being one of the top tier producer..
FMG as a company yes, valuation of SP?..no idea and very hard to find a proper analysis taking all of these points

@qldfrog I'm a strong believer in change what you can, accept what you can't and try and make money from both scenarios.
Will FMG green the planet, I don't know and actually from a personal point of view don't much care, will the drive to green the planet make money for FMG? IMO probably because the Govt has a bottomless pocket of money and are committed to spending it for the "cause".
So I bought a few FMG at $14 and a few cents in 2021, will I make money? so far yes.
Will they go broke, who knows, hopefully I'm out if that happens, but if iron ore tanks we will have more to worry about than FMG and FFI.
As for eating beef, well Maccas seems to still be doing o.k, whether CO2 is destroying the planet or not IMO isn't the issue, can money be made from investing in the narrative? IMO yes.
Battery minerals, H2 technologies and eventually uranium in my humble opinion, are likely to benefit from the Govt funded mania.

Billionaire Andrew Forrest, who stands to be one of the biggest winners from the scheme, urged the government to make sure it put the “risk back on investors” and above all, that it happens quickly.

Asked whether the successful companies would know by this year, Mr Bowen said: “Certainly, big progress.”


The plan includes an Australian Renewable Energy Agency “production credit” that would be awarded to the most competitive bidders to “basically bridge the gap between the strike price and the market price”.

“ARENA will work out what’s the best bang for buck for the country,” Mr Bowen said.
“We envisage that this is for big projects ... which means you don’t need many. You need a few big ones.”

I agree, good position, but I have ethical issues with that..not easy..
My systems and the super funds do not care with ethics so balance financially my positions but for pure investment calls, I weight it in.
Anyway, I think I had an entry this year around $12 ? with FMG, but a standard SL exited and I did not reenter in time..was it $12? Seems low but if exact , it shows how quick things change

In my life ethical issues have cost me the most amount of money and other people who purchased what I avoided for ethical reasons, made a hell of a lot.
I now try and keep my ethical beliefs separate from my financial decisions, ethical beliefs don't put food on the table or pay hospital bills, they just make you feel better while you sit there wondering how you are going to pay the bills.
I have an electric car, electric push bike, normal push bike, electric scooter, electric edger, lawnmower and whipper snipper, also have solar on the roof.
I'm doing my bit. ?
