A quick recap of the rules for those not familiar with them:

1. You MUST have a minimum of 10 posts to enter.

2. Each entrant may choose one ASX listed stock. Options, warrants and deferred settlement shares are not permitted.

3. Stocks with a price of less than $0.01 are ineligible for the competition, as are stocks that are currently suspended from trading.

4. The winner is the entrant whose selected stock performs the best in percentage terms between February 1 and February 28.

5. The maximum number of entrants in the competition is 100.

The competition winner will receive $100. The second placegetter will win $50 and the third placegetter $25.

You have until midnight on Saturday, January 31 to enter. However, in practice, entries can be submitted until this thread is closed. No entries submitted after that can be accepted for any reason.

Those who qualify, please post your entries in this thread. Remember, once you have selected your stock, you CANNOT change it for any reason. Also, you must be qualified when you enter.

Each month we usually have some members who do not qualify for the competition but enter anyway. If someone who has selected a stock hasn't yet qualified for the competition, their stock is officially up for grabs! Just mention it when you post your entry.

Into a copper mine, and like my penchant on gold copper will be a prescious metal in demand in due course. Simply supply and demand in my long term view. Electronics for alternative energy will soon b on a run and that is just one facit of what I could say.

Two months back I was distracted and forgot, it would have been NST and I'd have picked up the $100, am going to be third with it this month. It will keep going but the big money is in for the moment.

I would love to see more having ago at this competition. Some of the consistent ones, naura and miner you can almost always put your money on. So much to learn and it is not just the charts, fundamentals which includes the real news around the world plays a huge role too.

But by being in or watching the competition one will take on different and new perspectives.

Successful Senegal drilling program completed
• Two significant oil discoveries in the drilling program
• Both wells declared oil discoveries
• Preparing to plug SNE-1 well prior to rig being released
• Following the significant oil discovery in shallower Albian objective of SNE-1, no hydrocarbons encountered in deeper carbonate target
• Planning for an appraisal program to evaluate the two discoveries is underway

FAR Ltd (ASX: FAR) and its Joint Venture (JV) partners have completed drilling operations on the SNE-1 well in Senegal and plans are now underway to appraise the discovery.

Having discovered oil in the upper Albian sandstone target, no hydrocarbons were subsequently encountered in the deeper target of karstified and fractured Lower Cretaceous shelf carbonates. Following completion of logging operations the well will be plugged and abandoned as planned.

CGN Crater Gold Mining, thanks Joe

Has projects in Papua New Guinea. It’s targeting only 10,000 ounces initially, but at a cost of less than $400 an ounce. Potentially has a lot of gold to mine and easily accessible. Everything is in place for this miner to move to a gold producer.

I'll go with TPD, thanks Joe.

Basically, it's an oil minnow which has been smashed previously by poor results, then by the overall nasty oil situation, then had some reasonable results which fell on deaf ears because the oil scene had died. Basically, this is betting on oil recovering, which is certainly a long shot!

Strategic selection - TRS.

At random you have about a 1 in 50 chance at winning. So selecting an occurance that has a better than 1 in 12 chance of occuring, that then has a better than 1 in 4 chance on that occurance delivering a winning % gain.

February is earnings release, so I'm picking a stock that is priced for a significant earnings decline and growth uncertainty, reflected in a 11 PE (55c consensus full year earnings). Any surprise to the upside creates room for PE growth off a low base with any EPS upside.

Not quite sure about the timing: following the trading update, it may not wait till February, but so far, Technicals and Fundamentals seem to line up and point higher.



Apart from that, I hold ANO already; makes it easier to keep an eye on it
