Hi,
I'm looking for charting software, have tried FC-Charts which seems simple, cheap and easy to use and which should meet my requirements. Before I make a decision I'd love to hear from anyone with knowledge of Amiboker or Metastock for a comparison with FC-Charts.

Re: FC-Charts

When I tried FCharts I found it really great but not as easy to use as Metastock, and Metatock does more stuff. Given that Metastock costs many, many times what FCharts costs (I think there is still a free version of FCharts available?) I suppose that is inevitable. I think if I had a bit more knowledge of computers then I would have been more at ease with FCharts.

I have tried Amibroker; and it too is really good, but by then I had got very comfortable with Metastock. Amibroker has a huge following, for good reason.

Honestly I think if you want to try something low cost that may well do everything you need, then give FCharts a go. Amibroker and Metastock are then there as options if FCharts is not for you. Either of them is a good program.

I use Investor R/T now, it does loads of stuff but I only use a fraction of its capabilities.

Hope this helps.

I've used all three, but only the free version of F-charts I found it simple to use ok for beginner trader or someone wanting basic charting on a budget but Amibroker is by far the better charting software and Metastock is ok also but expensive.
I'd say go for Amibroker and premium data if your looking for end of day data, its what I use/recommend.
You can also download a free trial of Amibroker from there website try it out and compare.

Many thanks for your input. I think I'll go with the paid version of FCharts. It seems to have all that I need at present.

Oldpos or anyone else using FCharts Pro,

How are you finding FCharts Pro? I have the free FCharts program and was wondering if it's worth upgrading. I am just starting out with charting software and don't know the capabilities of what charting software can do.

For example, I know I can't do this in the FCharts free version, but in FCharts Pro, are you able to scan and filter the entire database for stocks that meet a certain criteria e.g. gives me a list of stocks that are currently in an uptrend (with an uptrend being defined as whatever I want it to be?). Does other charting software do this? Is this a common feature of paid software? Thanks.

Been using FCharts and FCharts Pro for a few years and it does everything I want.
I am no big time trader but I find suits my needs.
The display looks clean and uncluttered, unlike some systems,
The guy who wrote the program is contactable if you have probs too.
