I'm interested to hear about peoples favourite films related to finance.
Mine include Rogue Trader and Wallstreet. One film a little less money related is American Psycho, which is a personal favourite of mine.

Feel free to post some memorable quotes as they can apply to everyday scenarios.

I'm keen to watch Glengarry Glen Ross.

Boiler Room was good.

Recently saw 'Rollover'. Not bad but could of been better. Relates well to today's GFC

"A good personality consists of a chick with a little hard body, who will satisfy all sexual demands without being too slutty about things, and who essentially will keep her dumb fcuking mouth shut."

"I create nothing. I own"

Wall Street of course. I haven't seen Rogue Trader. American Psycho is also excellent, but it's not a finance movie, and I would guess that a lot of people wouldn't appreciate the commentary.

Now you're not naive enough to think we're living in a democracy, are you buddy?

Man looks in the abyss, there's nothing staring back at him. At that moment, man finds his character. And that is what keeps him out of the abyss.

And probably my favourite:

What you see is a guy who never measured a man's success by the size of his WALLET!

For anybody doing business or engaging in finance in NSW, there is one film that is essential to watch. If possible on a daily basis.

It is Pulp Fiction.

A quote from some pertinent dialogue.

Love the Pulp, dialogue is just the greatest.

"What the **** am I doing in the back, your the one that aught to be on brain detail"

The richest one percent of this country owns half our country's wealth, five trillion dollars. One third of that comes from hard work, two thirds comes from inheritance, interest on interest accumulating to widows and idiot sons and what I do, stock and real estate speculation. It's bull****. You got ninety percent of the American public out there with little or no net worth. I create nothing. I own. We make the rules, pal. The news, war, peace, famine, upheaval, the price per paper clip. We pick that rabbit out of the hat while everybody sits out there wondering how the hell we did it. Now you're not naive enough to think we're living in a democracy, are you buddy? It's the free market. And you're a part of it. You've got that killer instinct. Stick around pal, I've still got a lot to teach you.

The Notorious BIG said it best: "Either you're slingin' crack-rock, or you've got a wicked jump-shot." Nobody wants to work for it anymore. There's no honor in taking that after school job at Mickey Dee's, honor's in the dollar, kid. So I went the white boy way of slinging crack-rock: I became a stock broker.

"Show me the MONEY!!"

Though I don't think its a from a finance film
I hear they're making Wall Street II, with that kid from transformers in it..

Not exactly finance films, more politics but Bulworth and Network

Bulworth

Bullworth: Yo, everybody gonna get sick someday / But nobody knows how they gonna pay / Health care, managed care, HMOs / Ain't gonna work, no sir, not those / 'Cause the thing that's the same in every one of these / Is these mother****ers there, the insurance companies!
Cheryl and Tanya: Insurance! Insurance!
Bullworth: Yeah, yeah / You can call it single-payer or Canadian way / Only socialized medicine will ever save the day! Come on now, lemme hear that dirty word - SOCIALISM!

Network

Arthur Jensen: [bellowing] You have meddled with the primal forces of nature, Mr. Beale, and I won't have it! Is that clear? You think you've merely stopped a business deal. That is not the case! The Arabs have taken billions of dollars out of this country, and now they must put it back! It is ebb and flow, tidal gravity! It is ecological balance! You are an old man who thinks in terms of nations and peoples. There are no nations. There are no peoples. There are no Russians. There are no Arabs. There are no third worlds. There is no West. There is only one holistic system of systems, one vast and immane, interwoven, interacting, multivariate, multinational dominion of dollars. Petro-dollars, electro-dollars, multi-dollars, reichmarks, rins, rubles, pounds, and shekels. It is the international system of currency which determines the totality of life on this planet. That is the natural order of things today. That is the atomic and subatomic and galactic structure of things today! And YOU have meddled with the primal forces of nature, and YOU...WILL...ATONE!

The International

Umberto Calvini: "The IBBC is a bank. Their objective isn't to control the conflict, it's to control the debt that the conflict produces. You see, the real value of a conflict, the true value, is in the debt that it creates. You control the debt, you control everything. You find this upsetting, yes? But this is the very essence of the banking industry, to make us all, whether we be nations or individuals, slaves to debt."

William Wexler: "Well, this is the difference between truth and fiction. Fiction has to make sense."

Enron - The Smartest Guys in the Room

"What about the fact that President George Bush Junior calls Kenneth Lay, 'Kenny Boy' ?

Response from Kenneth Lays' Wife, "Oh, he heard me call him that".

Oh shucks how sweet. I wonder if Dubya boofed him too!

And another

Enron Conference Call April 17, 2001

Analyst: "You're the only financial institution that can't produce a balance sheet or cash flow statement with their earnings.."

Jeffrey Skilling (President of Enron): "You, you, you....Well, uh thankyou very much. We appreciate it. .....asshole."

Can't wait for the Madoff doco to come out and all the campaign contributions he made to the US Democrats. As well as all the mega US polluters who were his clients.

ask why, asshole?

Yep, agree. Anything by Tarantino is great.
Ditto anything by Stanley Kubrick.

"Check the trade, especially the put options".

Just saw 'The last days of Lehman Brothers', worth a watch.

"Sticking a feather up your butt does not make you a chicken" Fight Club

"Man, I see in Fight Club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see it squandered. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables — slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy **** we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our great war is a spiritual war. Our great depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars, but we won't. We're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off" More Fight Club
