The only big punt I ever took was in 1994 when I'd lost quite a fortune after the 1987 stock market crash. The stock was Endeavor Resources (St Barbara Mines). There was a takeover offer by a guy named Atkins, at 3.5 cents a share and there was a note enclosed telling us not to accept the offer (the reason was, he'd bought a majority stake in the company from the bankrupt Bond who had been jailed).
Bought with open arms, as they say, and the stock nearly hit $3.00 - my life saved.
